Obituary of Karen Patricia Hansen
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Karen Hansen at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on June 26, 2022. She was the eldest daughter of the late Carrol and Helen Hansen.
After growing up in New Denmark, Karen moved to Fredericton and pursued a 30-year career as an administrative assistant at UNB in the MBA program. Karen gave generously of herself to everyone. She was deeply loved by all. She was known for her loving, caring ways, her selflessness, kindness and unconditional acceptance. She will be remembered for her love of her Danish Heritage; family and especially time spent with her grandson Alex, all animals; her beloved second home “Hildale school”; shopping, second hand stores, and yard sales; gardening and flowers; Lypsyl and a cold can of Coke. Always thoughtful, she was a source of connection, support, and a nurturing mother to many. Karen lived with boundless energy and a cheerful zest for life. Her resilience, strength, generosity, and kindness were beyond measure.
Karen is survived by her husband, Bob Doucette; daughter, Michelle Ivey; grandson, Alex MacDonald; son, David Hansen; sister, Kathy Atkinson (Gary); brothers, Rod Hansen, Doug Hansen (Patti) and Andrew Hansen; sister-in-law, Janet Hansen; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Besides her parents, Karen was predeceased by her brother, Rick Hansen; and sister in law, Sharon Beaulieu.
A Memorial Service will take place at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in New Denmark on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fredericton SPCA. Family wish to thank the staff of 3SW, Dr. Blyth and the nurses for their care and compassion shown to Karen during this time. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
