To The McCabe Family: I was shocked and saddened to hear of LCol (Malcolm) McCabe's passing. Malcolm was my very first boss at Base Supply Gagetown. I was just coming out of high school at age 17 (1972) and scared to death... my first job interview (for the Officer Commander's Secretary!!!) Malcolm was my interviewer and put me right at ease with his kind manner, and he even recommended me for the job!!!! Years later, to my delight, Malcolm returned as the OC. In my 39 years in the job, Malcolm was THE VERY best of the best. (My very favorite in 39 years!)
Over the years, I ran into Malcolm in Fredericton a few times and he always had time to stop and chat with me. I was brought up on Gilmour St in Oromocto as was his daughter-in-Law (I believe).
Please know that I am keeping the McCabe family in my thoughts and prayers as you navigate through this difficult time. Wishing your family comfort and strength for the days and weeks ahead.
With deepest sympathy,
Wendy (Tracy) Smythe

I was very sorry to learn of Malcolm's death and send my condolences to Sandra and family. I met Malcolm in the 1960s when he was a student at UNB and was living in the MacKenzie House student residence. At the time, I was the Don of that residence and Malcolm was elected as House President. He was a most effective House President and I found him a delight to work with. He displayed masterful leadership of a 100-man residence and, following this experience, he obviously went on to a leadership career with the Canadian Forces. I met him occasionally after his student days, but regret that we didn't reconnect more often. He was a good man.

We were so shocked and sad to read of Mal’s passing.
Always planned to get together again but life with family seemed to crowd most other pastimes.
Our most sincere sympathies to Sandy, Adam & Kate (who will always be Katie to us).
We were fortunate to have spent time with your family and we have many fond memories of you all.
Mal was a wonderful memorable friend.
Love, Jim & Betty Ann

Malcolm could always make me smile! We had many conversations about work and what I could do to make it better lol. One thing Malcom never forgot was Sandra, he had a different look about him when she walked in the room!! He will be greatly missed!!! Cheryl Ferris

Mr McCabe was an amazing mentor to me in CFB Gagetown. He was rigorous but relaxed. He used to tell me not to stress about this or that and his presence in the Command Team was always positive and productive.
My deepest condolences to the family and many friends of Malcolm. RIP Sir.
