Dear Joanne and Dave,
Wow so many years gone by, although I remember so much. Your mom and dad were best friends with mine (Tom and Olive Pate) in our LaSalle days. Bridge, golf with the Derry's and many dinners together. Such fun times. Dave, we only crossed paths via Verdun High for a year or so and I do not know how that happened, beyond our love of football. But I remember you well. And Joanne, we followed the same path longer than Dave and I, and I remember long chats while our patents played bridge in the playroom. Also followed you for a while when you had your ministry broadcasts from Ottawa.
Your mom and dad were such special friends to our family and, from my mom's albums, I still have many pictures.
Hugs all around,
Howard Pate

Some of my fondest childhood memories come from family time spent at the cottage with Grammy and Grampy, and I was fortunate enough to live close by as an adult for a numbers of years and could share many holiday days together. She and I always shared a connection and I'm sure I can map my stubbornness, sarcasm and dry sense of humour directly to her!
Love always, Geoffrey

We wanted to send along our thoughts and sympathies to you : Joyce , Joanne, Judy ,David and your families as you deal with the loss of our Grand Lake Matriarch. Having spent summers next door to " Aunt "Janet ( although she was my dads cousin), the opportunity to have her fun and creative spirited energies over the years afforded our Parkhill clan so many wonderful memories. I remember, as a little girl, watching mom and Janet sitting on the beach in big chats and long swims. She encouraged me to learn to swim and had me in tow many a time down to the shore. Many summer evenings were spent at one of Janet's theme parties and the noise level from their cottage must have had all surrounding Grand Lake properties wondering what was going on at Sailboat Lane! Her open door hospitality welcomed new visitors to the lake , and even generously offered a move to their home in Lasalle to take my Grade Eleven year.
So many memories that your family are now sharing together ...we will be thinking of you . Hugs Kathryn and Peter in Kelowna.

Dear Judy, Joyce, Joanne, David and beloved family,
I was speaking with my Mom, Phyllis Parkhill, and she asked me to pass on her sympathies and love to you, along with and abundance of wonderful remembrances of Jan.
Mom noted her very close friendship with Jan over a lifetime. They were essentially cousins-by-marriage but friends-by-nature, and even though living provinces apart during the family and work years, they were brought together by the Grand Lake cottages. So many summers spent as neighbours at the lake, sunning, swimming, always sharing… and wrangling kids from all the branches and ensuing generations of the family! I remember one particular time when Jan and Mom loaded me with them into the canoe and paddled us across the cove for a picnic. It was a grand adventure for me and so special to be in the company of these two women, included in their lives and buoyed across the waters. Mom didn’t remember that specifically but we did have a laugh recollecting all the skinny dipping!
Jan was a constant for Mom, and often an instigator and motivator, especially when they ended up both living in Sussex after retirement. I know they enjoyed living in the same community year round, sharing meals, art, events, friends, church and also finding the familiar foundation of longterm friendship under the life challenges they both faced along the way.
With great gratitude and fierce admiration for Jan along with loving comfort to you all,
Phyllis & Kim Parkhill

To Joyce and family,
I read your mother's obituary and we are sorry for your loss. Your mother lived a very full life. She certainly was accomplished, talented, educated and loyal to her family, friends and her country. I now know where you inherited her friendly, caring way of life. She truly was remarkable. May she rest in peace. Thinking of you.
