It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gracie Fay (Fay) (nee Edwards) Campbell announce her passing on August 13, 2021 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital following a short illness.

Born in Charlottetown, Fay spent her early years on the family farm in Hampshire, PEI. The family moved to Fredericton in 1959, where in 1963 she met the love of her life, Duncan at a YMCA dance.

Married in 1966, their house was soon full of kids, animals and decoys. Duncan worked at Tractors & Equipment, while Fay managed Chris, Andrew and Jill and kept their world going. Their home had an open-door policy: everyone was welcome. Blessed with many friends throughout her life, Fay never failed to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

When not in Fredericton or later at Foshay Lake, Fay could be found holding court at the family cottage at Robertson’s Point, worrying about any kids swimming too far from shore or climbing on the rocks. She was a mom to everyone she met.

Over the years Fay lent her expertise to numerous organizations, including the YMCA, UCW, St. Paul’s Church Choir, Junior Achievement, Meals on Wheels, Ducks Unlimited, Jemseg Food Bank, Orchard View Long-Term Care Home, and her local Cancer Support Group.

Queen of the veggie tray and white wine spritzer, Fay had many other interests, including reading, puzzles, decorating and travelling. A passionate gardener, she could identify every shrub and flower.

Fay’s greatest joys were her children and nine grandchildren. She doted on each and every one of them with unconditional love, and her strength, grace and resiliency were inspiring to them all.

Fay was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2012 and a stem cell transplant allowed her to live happily in the company of family, great friends and neighbours. She was proud to be part of the Saint John Multiple Myeloma Support Group.

Fay will be greatly missed by husband Duncan; their three children: Christopher (Stephanie) and Andrew (Karen) of Fredericton, and Jill (Derek) of Ontario. Grandma was immensely proud of and will be missed by grandchildren Victoria and Elizabeth; Katie, Bailey and Duncan; and Bryson, Payton, Aidan and Reece. Also left to mourn is Fay’s brother Alan Edwards (Margaret) of South Carolina; sister-in-law Andrea Dolan of Halifax, brother-in-law Bob Stevenson of Foshay, several cousins, nieces and nephews; and countless friends. She was predeceased by her parents: John Edwards in 1963, and Georgie Edwards in 2015; sister-in-law Janet Stevenson.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, with the memorial service on Wednesday, August 18th at 2 pm. The family requests that everyone please wear a mask and follow COVID-19 safety measures. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.

The family wishes to thank Reverend Jane Johnson, Dr. Barton, and the staff of DECRH Palliative Care unit (especially Dr. Cameron and Nurse Krista) for their kind and compassionate care of Fay.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Fay’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Hospice Fredericton, Camp Rotary, Saint John Regional Hospital, or the Chalmers Foundation (Palliative Care Unit).
