Please share a memory of Weldon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With extreme sorrow we announce the passing of George “Weldon” Moir, age 91, on Wednesday, March 24th, 2021 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, with his loving daughter Karen by his side. Weldon was born on June 26th, 1929, in Bloomfield Ridge, N.B., the eldest child of the late Everett and Frances (MacDonald) Moir.

Weldon will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his children, Clarke (Susan) of Calgary, AB, Doug (Joanne) of Kitchener, ON and Karen Misener of Fredericton, NB; sister, Florence (Dave) McCord of Riverview, NB and sister-in-law Marge Moir of Cape Coral, Florida. Loved by grandchildren, Jill Lorencz, Jason (Lindsay) Misener, Jonathan (Theresa) Moir, Justin Moir (Kelsey Guse), Tylor Beitz (Natalie Fiedler) and Alex Beitz (Mallory Trainor); great grandchildren Lily and Brooklynn Lorencz, and Avery and Austin Misener.

Weldon was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley (Greene) (2017), sister Loreta (1944), brothers Donald (1975), Calvin (2018), and sister-in-law June (2014) and nephew Peter Moir (2019).

Weldon at 17 years old began his career as an automotive mechanic working 9 years at Tom Wilson’s Garage in Boiestown. Weldon and Shirley were married November 26, 1954 in the Bloomfield Ridge United Church. They moved to Fredericton in 1955 and began a family. Weldon worked at Lawson Motors for the next 34 years and finished his career at the RCMP Post Garage in 1997 at the age of 68. Weldon loved spending time at the cottage on the Miramichi River, canoeing, attending family and community events, and managing his wood lots.

He was a handyman who enjoyed woodworking and repairing all types of machinery and vehicles. Weldon restored his 1969 Beaumont several times over the past 50 years. Recently Weldon enjoyed driving his new red 2020 Chev Silverado 4X4. He kept current on daily news, politics, enjoyed country music and Turner Classic Movies.

Weldon faithfully attended St. Peter’s Anglican Church and Boiestown United Church. Throughout Weldon’s lifetime he made it a priority to attend many funerals of family, friends and their loved ones. He was a member of the Fredericton Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4. Weldon and Shirley were members and well known frequent customers at the Fredericton Direct Charge Coop since it’s opening in 1974.

Weldon has been cared for at home with love and compassion by his daughter Karen and Lesley Fraser (CNA). He enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends, frequent chats and FaceTiming with Clarke and Susan overseas in Kuwait, Doug and Joanne in Kitchener, and Florence and Dave in Riverview. Weldon also appreciated visits and phone calls from his nephew Mark Moir, sister-in-law Nancy Plante and Al Cole. He was looking forward to travelling by train to his grandson Justin’s (Kelsey) wedding in BC this August 2021. Bella cat was his constant companion. We extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Sean Dolan (St. John Regional Hospital), Dr. Jamila Belhadjsalah, Dr. Gordon MacDonald and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit, and daily visits and prayers from Rev. Canon Dr. Ross Hebb.
