Donna and family we want to extend our sincere sympathy in your loss of Harold, your husband and Dad. He was so kind and generous. Every fall he raked many bags of leaves that he gave to Reg for his compost pile - Reg looked forward to his phone call saying they were ready for pick-up - Reg appreciated his thoughtfulness. I always appreciated all of his assistance and energy for our church (he would help with any project). We enjoyed his stories at "coffee time". I remember us going to meet our family at "Murray"s" and there was Harold and Donna meeting with their family and it was a delight for all of us!! We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers Donna.

I am a cousin to Harold who was named after my dad Harold Ripley. Harold and Donna were kind enough to side track there trip home to come to my dad's visitation. That was such a surprise and meant so much to me that him and Donna did that. Growing up we would drive down east to see all family. Wish I could have had more contact with Harold over the years. My sincere condolences to Donna and family. Dianne Welsby

Hi family. We have so many great memories of Harold and the special part he was in our family celebrations. It was always fun to know Donna and Harold we coming down from Fredericton. We also enjoyed dropping in on them when we travelled East. We are grateful they opened their home wide so Laura could stay and attend a placement for her OT degree. Our kids considered them another set of grandparents they were blessed to have.
Laughing, eating, playing his guitar, singing, sipping various libations - Harold was such a fun, easy-going guy.
Our prayers are that you will find ways to grieve during this COVID time and you know many of us are surrounding you with much love and prayers. We miss him already.
Until we meet again.
All our love,
The Revie Clan

So sorry to hear of your husband’s and Dads passing. What a nice, congenial man he always was. My most vivid memory of Harold is when my family lived on Longwood and he would make that piano talk. Beautiful it was until your dog “Sport” decided to sing/howl in true beagle nature. Thank you for the music Harold and to you all for being such great neighbours.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I remember him well. Back in the 70's my whole family went through McAdam Ave school. I had Mrs. Saunders and he shared a split class 5/6. He was a fare and kind man who was very patience with me and helped me a lot in math because I struggled big time. Later on in life I decided to work as an EA staring in 1988 and spending 20 years working out of McAdam Ave School with children of all walks of life. It has been a career I have loved very much. RIP kind man.

Donna and Family,
We had not heard that Harold wasn't well, so we were totally surprised and deeply saddened by the news.
I have never seen Harold when he was not busy- participating at a teachers meeting, busily volunteering in so many capacities at the DECH. We remember vividly our square dancing days; in fact, we were given a beautiful wooden serving tray made by Harold.
Such a role model for all of us! Thinking of you all with much sympathy.

My favorite memory of Harold was on December 1st, 1966, I was teaching an art lesson at Charlotte Street just after the noon break. I had just started the class in the Art room when Mr Dykeman came into the room and said the hospital just called and you have to go there right now. Your wife just gave birth and you should be there. "Get your butt out of here and go see your new daughter and don't worry about your class, I'll look after it".

Dearest Donna and beloved family, I have lit a green candle for Harold, for all the tiny little wedge shaped blocks he so carefully made for the children's stories at the church. These blocks were difficult to make and represented ordinary time. Harold made them without a thought of thanks and when I received them he was surprised by my deep gratitude and delight.
Harold, the work of your hands has carved a very special place in many people's lives. You are missed. I am blessed to have known you.
Priscilla
Love also from my family, Patti, Hannah and Gabby.

Dearest Donna, Don, Doug, and families. Kim and I offer our deepest condolences on your great loss.
My first memories of Harold are from so long ago it is hard to know if they are real or imagined. I have literally known him all my life and it won’t be the same without him. Harold and family would regularly come to visit our grandparents and I would look forward to those visits so much. I frequently stayed overnight at “Gramp” and “Grams” but it was so much more exciting when the Dykemans would “come up”. We children would play and have such a great time and Harold and Donna and Gramp and Gram would play cards and laugh and tell stories most of the evening. They had so much fun.
I worshiped my grandfather and spent as much time with him as my parents would allow but he was peculiarly picky about the people he liked and didn’t like. For whatever reason, Harold fitted into the “could do no wrong” category. Grandfather was a fantastic story teller and loved to laugh but when his Anderson temper would come out, it was best to stand clear. Harold told me that on one of the family visits to Glassville, he volunteered to help out with the farming. After all, he grew up on a farm and had experience, so what could go wrong. Grandfather gladly permitted him to take his only tractor, his prized Farmall-H, out to the field to harrow. Within a very short time, back comes Harold on foot, no tractor. Said tractor was up to its axles in a mud hole and wasn’t going anywhere. Knowing my Grandfather’s tendency to fly into a fit of rage over something like that, I was concerned about what happened next. Seems Grandfather’s countenance was that of a summer thundercloud, and though teeth were gritted, not a word was said. As no lasting harm was done, and much later of course, Harold could only see the humor of it and laughed and laughed.
Harold would often take my Grandparents on a drive around Fredericton when they went to visit and as a kid tagging along, I got to go too. I enjoyed those drives, but Grandfather being Grandfather would always complain about what he thought was Harold’s waiting to the last possible minute to “slam” on the brakes for a red light. Knowing Harold as I have, I came to realize that he was quite mischievous though never in a malicious way. So, fast forward to a trip around the Cabot trail with Donna and Gram sitting in the back seat, Harold driving and Grandfather in the passenger seat. At some point Grandfather falls asleep. According to his version of the story, Harold went whipping off the highway, straight into a cliff side lookout, slammed on the brakes and jolted grandfather awake only to see nothing but oblivion below. Grandfather just coming conscious sees nothing but vast open space and is stricken by the panic that they are going over. This time, no silence. The air was blue. Knowing them both as I did, I believe it was a setup and that the bait was taken. I laugh every time I think about it.
Harold seemed to particularly enjoy teasing my grandmother, and though she protested, she loved it. For many years a toy monkey would appear under her Christmas tree. I have no idea how that started, but finding that monkey made her both sputter and gush at the same time. Though she protested, she loved that little extra bit of attention from her dear son in law.
Visiting with Harold always lifted my spirits. He was such an interesting, pleasant, cheery individual. Harold, I will miss you greatly. Fair winds and following seas, Wayde

He and Donna met up with my parents, my grandmother Monica, my husband, my son Rory and myself at JPMs Canteen for a "socially distanced" visit. It was the only time that Harold got to meet Rory, but I'm glad that we can share that memory with him in the future.

We are so very sorry to learn of Harold's passing....we first met Harold in 1969 when he was an auxiliary member of the RCMP
in the Village of Nashwaakis. I really enjoyed working with Harold and we shared quite a few memorable social events with him and Donna. Both our boys, Chris and Jeff, attended McAdam Avenue school when Harold was principal and they always spoke kindly of him. Although we have only seen each other several times over the years since then, he remained one of my favourite friends. He will be missed by many folks.

Dear Donna, Don and Doug and families, I was so saddened to hear of Harold’s passing and am sending you my love and support during this difficult time. I have many memories of the Lightening Boys as I think my parents were perhaps their best customers given they pretty much renovated their whole house! Always lots of laughter whenever the Lightening Boys were on the scene! I remember as a young adult thinking I had no idea renovations could be so much fun! I have since learned they are not. Harold was a true gem, always positive, free with his smiles, and such a huge support and true friend to my parents. He will be missed by so many.

Ii am sending condolences to you and your family. Mr. Dykeman was my grade nine teacher at Albert Street School. I always remember a little talk he had with me one day at noon. On that particular day there were three male students at the back of the class creating a disturbance. I was turning around watching and not paying attention to Mr. Dykeman’s teaching. I was at the front of class and I always liked doing well at school- these boys - were not interested in learning. Mr. Dykeman told me they were acting out to get my attention and maybe I should not turn around as it encouraged them. He told me maybe If I didn’t pay attention to them , maybe they would pay attention to him teaching class. Great advice. One of those boys, David Colter, became my boyfriend that year. At the end of the year as David graded , Mr. Dykeman told him how proud he was that he buckled down and did his school work and he thought Miss Ferguson had a lot to do with it..
David ended up being the love of my life and we married years later and had four wonderful children. I always enjoyed seeing Harold over the years and he always commented that our love story started in his class. Harold was a wonderful man and an awesome teacher. Here I am 74 and remember what a great teacher he was. May you cherish your many wonderful memories.
My deepest sympathies, Elaine Colter

Donna,Don, Doug and families, It would be impossible to share "a" memory. There are so many. From the unmentionable Christmas gifts given to make me blush to the many family picnics and get togethers, to the piano playing guitar picking song singing after dinner times at 102 Longwood, to chasing Sporty at Gramp and Grams when it was time to head home, and of course him taking my wedding pics. He told me he knew Rick was the one the first time he met him. Most recently, how much I enjoyed our yellow Covid visit in December.Watching he and Wayde trying to set up a new fancy TV was worth the trip to Fredericton. So many memories, so many laughs so much love!
