Stephen R Robinson posted a condolence
Wednesday, June 30, 2021
I was reading the recent UNB Alumni news today, and I learned of the passing of Ralph Elliott. I am late to the game but I wanted to express my condolences on Ralph's passing. I worked under Ralph as a young Engineer at FENCO in Fredericton in what I believe was 1989 and 1990. We were working on Highway Design projects back then and I learned a lot under Ralph's guidance. Ralph was a very thorough Engineer and tireless worker, and I'd like to believe that I learned something about work ethic from him. I consider Ralph to have been one of the key mentors in my career as an Engineer, and I thank him for that.
I am in Moncton now and I do all sorts of forensic engineering investigations in the insurance world. I'm probably 6 yrs from retirement, but still remember my time learning from Ralph fondly.
Please accept my deepest condolences for his passing. And please accept my thanks for allowing him to share his knowledge with other Engineers.
Sincerely
Stephen R. Robinson, P.Eng.

I was saddened to learn of Ralph’s passing. I will miss his emails which kept me up to date with the going’s on of our classmates. I am sure you will be comforted by fond memories.
One very distinct memory I have was when we were at UNB classmates playing “inter- murder” hockey at the old Lady Beaverbrook Arena on University Ave. One day after a game the first thing we did when we returned to the dressing room was light up a cigarette even before we untied our skates. As we took our first drag we both took a coughing fit, started laughing with tears streaming down our faces and commented about how stupid we were!

We’re to begin I first started hanging around the Elliott clan in 2001 wow time flies many card games and lobster suppers and Joyce’s mudder famous potato salad a lot of times the card games also would turn to dancing and listening to charley pride and don williams amongst many more .Ralph had me baffled more than once with his engineering talk but I would look on with interest and occasionally I would get a word in even lol mudder would say Ralph stop your driving that boy crazy with your bs we would all laugh and Ralph would give me that sly grin out of the corner of his mouth and I would laugh out loud more than once because when dale and mudder got together they talked the talk themselves lol. From lobster suppers at the freaks retreat to travelling to New Hampshire we had some laughs .One time we went to Florida with my girls Kaelyn and Bailey and on one of the last times that mudder and Ralph were down there we decided to meet up for the afternoon and evening and we all decided we would go out to supper well we no longer got out on the road when mudder and Ralph had shall we say a little tiff about something and Bailey now think about this was only like 9 and she said and I quote WILL YOU GUYS JUST CHILLAX well didn’t that start a great laugh and it kind of stuck and when things would get a little heated at a card game after that I would or dale would say chillaxand it was always good for a laugh . I tried to get Ralph out every year at hunting season and we had some great talks about his old friends and the beloved farm were he was born my only regret is that him and I never seemed to get down there [he loved that farm and his roots] he loved his crib dale says she used to be able to beat him occasionally lol.I have something that Ralph gave me it is a carving of a beaver and a canoe and a set of horns from a big buck that he shot a few years before it is hanging with pride at our campi have toasted it more than once and I will continue I am not sure we’re it came from but I think it was from art bear correct me if I’m wrong I also have a pic of Ralph holding a bobcat it’s one of the treasure at the camp that I’m proud of as well We had many talks about the grandkids each and everyone I know for a fact had a special place in his heart . Dale and I want to let you know that we are thinking of you all and know that he is suffering no more. Love Dale and Mitch

Dear Jeff, Paul & Tracey:
I was deeply saddened to hear that your Dad passed away two days ago. You will not know me but your Dad and I were friends since our early teens, growing up about two miles apart in Youngs Cove. He was about two years older than I but we went to high school together. He was two grades ahead of me and in the same class as my sister Betty Hooper (nee Trifts). They were also very close friends.
The last time I spoke with Ralph was to tell him that Betty had died - just two months ago now. He was unable to attend the funeral, as was I, because of Covid. It is difficult for me to believe that I have lost two lifelong friends so close together.
It appears that the weather and Covid will prevent saying goodbye in person.
Your Dad certainly loved you guys. I will miss him too.
Deepest sympathies to you and to Joyce.
Bob & Céline Trifts

Always a kind and gentle man. He loved his children as much as he loved ours. Joyce looked after both our children but he had a special relationship with our daughter Monique. Every lunch time when he came home, he would put Monique on his knee and she would play with the pens in his shirt pocket while he ate. He actually called me a few months ago and wanted to know if we were related to a Dr. Barrett they had on the Live at 5. I told him that I didn’t know but we ended up talking about everything, Covid, children, grandchildren for an hour.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
