Obituary of Rochus Richard Johan Brostowski

 

BROSTOWSKI, ROCHUS “ROY” RICHARD JOHAN

February 26, 1943 – November 30, 2020

Rochus “Roy” Richard Johan passed away peacefully on Monday, November 30, 2020 at Hospice House, Fredericton, NB.  Born in Salatiga, Java, Indonesia. He spent almost the first three years of his life in a Japanese prison camp along with his mother and brother. After the war the family continued to live in Indonesia until he was eight and moved back to the Netherlands. His family moved down the road from the Zetzema’s where Will and Roy first met. In 1966 they married and went on their honeymoon to Canada.

Rochus, Roy, Lievert, Dad, Opa, whatever you called him, just don’t call him late for supper! He worked various jobs throughout his life, retiring from UNB Fredericton as the Director of Housing and Food services. In retirement, Roy could be found working at NB Liquor for many years.

In addition to his wife Will, Roy is survived by his children, Jill, Michael (Denise), Stephanie (Andrew); grandchildren Ian (Heather), Zachary (Jasna), Jacob (Kyra), Neena (Dalwinder), Nicholas, Rebekah, Micah and Kiara; great grandchildren  Jackson, Abagail, Keegan and David; sister, Ivon; sister in-law Lilly; special niece Natasha; niece Mirjam (Ton); nephew Marc (Dianah) their daughter Bo; nephew Bas (Jenna); niece Martha. Rochus was predeceased by his mother Geesje (John) and father Joep (Jantje); brother, Fritz.

Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID-19 restriction, a gathering and celebration of life will take place at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Fredericton Hospice.  Personal condolence may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
