Obituary of Leota Lozan Henderson

Please share a memory of Leota to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Another of the “Pond girls” has left us. Born Leota Lozan Pond on September 17, 1923 in Woodlands, NB to Otis and Lottie (Jones). With her mind as sharp as her sewing needle, she peacefully left this earth on March 30, 2020 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital with Sandy by her side.

Her presence in the home of her loving granddaughter Sandy Lavigne (Jamie Miller) will be missed immensely by all including her great grandson Nolan Miller and great granddaughter Brinlie Miller who only know home as a place where their Gigi is. Grieving the passing of their remarkable mother are Lonnie Jones (Anne MacLean) of Donkin, NS and Kathy Lavigne (Ricky) of Stanley, NB as well as their son Randy Lavigne also of Stanley. Leota is survived by one remaining sibling Roberta Willett of Whitby, ON as well as numerous close nieces and nephews who were kept connected through her continued involvement in their lives. In particular her niece Leanne Harvey who was more of an honorary granddaughter and held a special place in Leotas heart.

Predeceased by her husbands Paul Jones and Gerry Henderson as well as the Pond siblings whom she treasured beyond measure, Cecil Pond, Ruby Harvey, Glenna Pollock, Greta Cookson and Della Logan Donovan.

As the librarian in the village of Stanley, she was well known and respected in her community and surrounding areas. Often referred to as a “second mother” to many local kids she was never short on love or lessons for anyone in need. She remained a member of St. Peters Presbyterian Church to this day and was spoiled by home visits from Reverend Lynn Hughes on a regular basis. Following her move to Fredericton in 2009 she became active in the Johnson Seniors Centre and formed many new friendships. She filled her time as an avid quilter, sewer, crafter, and decorator of all things Christmas! She will be remembered fondly for her strength, her love of nature and gentle laugh.

A special thank you to nurse Tracy Fanjoy of the CCU whose presence and utmost care meant the world to family when they couldn’t be there in person.

Donations in Leotas memory can be made to the Diabetic Association or a charity of the donor's choice. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when friends and family are able to gather together and celebrate the truly wonderful woman she was. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
