Obituary of Malcolm Campbell

CAMPBELL, MALCOLM NEIL (MAC) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Malcolm Neil Campbell on November 16, 2012. Mac was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick on June 12, 1937, the son of the late Mildred (Laurie) and James Neil Campbell. He is survived by his loving family, his devoted wife of 58 years Carol Ann of Fredericton; daughter Teri Ann Gibson (Scott) of Woodstock; one grandson Christopher Gibson of Fredericton; brother Jack Campbell (Madeline) of Fredericton; sister Allie Lou Campbell of Fredericton; sister-in-law Marilyn Holyoke (Doug) of Newmarket ON; sister-in-law Jane Gamble (Doug Hall) of Fredericton; brother-in-law Paul Jewett (Heather) of Fredericton and special nieces and nephews. Mac graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and 1975 with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. In 1999 he retired from NB Power after 35 years of service during which time he provided expertise in Electrical Design Engineering, Production System Maintenance Engineering and Transmission Maintenance of high voltage equipment. Mac was widely renowned as an expert in electrical systems and his expertise was sought by companies in Canada, the United States, Russia, South Korea, Romania, Mexico, Scotland and Germany. After retiring from NB Power, he provided consulting services for Neill and Gunter, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Maritime Electric Company and E. Holland Construction. Mac served as Scholarship chair, 1st Vice President and President of the 25 Year Club of NB Power. In 2007, he became a life member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick. In 2011, he was chosen to become a Fellow of Engineers Canada in recognition for his outstanding service and dedication to the engineering profession. This prestigious award is presented to an elite group of professionals whose expertise, accomplishments and experience have helped advance Canadian engineering. An avid athlete since youth, Mac enjoyed actively participating and being a spectator for a variety of sports. There was a sport for every season – golf, bowling, basketball, hockey, flying small aircraft, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling. He enjoyed his camp on the Nashwaak where he spent many wonderful years hunting, fishing and snowmobiling with family and friends. As much as he was a sports enthusiast, Mac loved music and live theatre. Whether it was a musical, comedy or drama production, he appreciated and enjoyed every moment. At home, Mac entertained family and friends with his lively piano and organ recitals. Mac loved to travel and he had opportunity to experience many parts of the world. Whether the travel was work related or a family holiday, it was always a bonus if there were a golf course available. Mac always felt that the best part about travelling was coming home. He took great pride in maintaining his home and property. His manicured lawns were always kept in show condition and this was achieved by another of Mac’s sports- riding his beloved John Deere tractor. Mac always maintained a healthy balance between career and play time but as dedicated to work and recreation that Mac was, he was first and foremost a family man. He was a loving and committed partner to Carol Ann and he was the epitome of strength and support for his wife. He gave unconditional love and unwavering support to his immediate and extended family and he had the ability to make everyone feel that they were the most important person in his life. Mac was always ready to lend a hand or two to whoever needed it. He never wavered from any responsibility and as such Mac has been and will continue to be a role model and mentor for his daughter, grandson and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive Fredericton on Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at York Funeral Home’s T.
