Obituary of Charles Blizzard

BLIZZARD, CHARLES “MELVIN” The passing of Charles “Melvin” Blizzard of Fredericton, NB, husband of Mary (Thompson) Blizzard occurred on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at York Care Centre. Born on February 24, 1941 in Millville, NB, he was the son of the late Harold and Phoebe (Blaney) Blizzard. Melvin graduated from Millville High School, Fredericton Agricultural College and the Maritime Forest Ranger School. He worked at the J.D. Irving Tree Sanctuary in Juniper, NB and was a Forest Ranger with the Department of Natural Resources from 1964 – 2000. Melvin was a District Forest Ranger with the Department of Natural Resources. He was a member of Maple Ridge Wesleyan Church, and was affiliated with Devon Park Baptist Church. Melvin enjoyed bowling, curling, four wheeling and farming; he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid walker. Melvin was a volunteer in his community and liked helping his neighbours. He also enjoyed picking fiddleheads and blueberries. In addition to his wife, Melvin is survived by his daughters, Jacqueline Durley (David) of Hampton, NB and Lynn Stewart (Peter) of Fredericton, NB; son, Michael Blizzard of Meadow Lake, SK; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Zachery and Benjamin Durley, Jeremy, Joshua and Janessa Blizzard, Alexandrea and Maggie Jewett; sister, Marguerite Sanders of Woodstock, NB; nephews, Roger, Allison and Karl Sanders. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Murray Blizzard. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, November 22, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at Maple Ridge Wesleyan Church on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 1 pm with Rev. Lawrence Meade and Rev. Wayne Blinn officiating. Interment will take place in Maple Ridge Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Paramedics who assisted Melvin when it was needed, staff of Oromocto Hospital Medical Unit and Duffy Unit and our neighbourhood men. Special thank you to his sister, Marg, for providing several months of in home care, to the staff of York Care Centre and especially to his daughter, Lynn, who went above and beyond to care for her father.
