Obituary of Herbert Hawkins
HAWKINS, HERBERT BAILEY
Born, Lived and Lost on Sunset Dr, Nashwaaksis
It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Herb Hawkins at the age of 86. Herbie dedicated his whole life to the community of Nashwaaksis and the City of Fredericton. The evenings and weekends were often filled with him telling stories of some of the men and women that he respected and admired. That dedicated their lives for the city and shared his passion for one another. We were fortunate to have heard these stories and know he was supported by a wonderful team when we didn’t have him home. For those of you that had worked with him over the years please know that you all had a spot in his heart. He would sit and listen to the scanner hoping you were all ok when that alarm went off. He would often recount events of major fires in the city, times that he almost lost or had lost friends, but he had never forgotten any of you and the support you gave him. His love for the city and fire dept. would only be surpassed by one thing and that would be the love for his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Joyce Hawkins (Copeland) who passed Sept. 30, 2015; and forever loved by his children, Harold, Harriet, Patrick and Robert; 13 Grand children and 12 Great grandchildren. We will always love you Papa.
At his request there will be no service, however at a later date the family will be planning a Celebration of Life. Likely summer 2020. Special thanks to Chris Hallet, York Care Centre Staff and the Fredericton Fire Department for giving him one last call. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Herb’s name to the International Association of Fire Fighters, http://client.prod.iaff.org/#page=iaffcanada.
