Obituary of Ernest Richard MacFadzen

MACFADZEN, ERNEST RICHARD HAVELOCK The passing of Ernest Richard Havelock MacFadzen of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Ina (Flynn) MacFadzen (love of his life) occurred on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at York Care Centre. Born on August 21, 1928 in New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mabel (Coy) McFadzen. Ernest is survived by his children, Judith MacFadzen and Richard MacFadzen both of Fredericton, NB, Steven MacFadzen of Calgary, AB, Mark MacFadzen (Pat) of Douglas and Kevin MacFadzen of Hamtown Corner; grandchildren, Lauren, Alexandra, Michelle, Tyler and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Emily, Adelaide, Brett, Charly, Kade, Thea, Audrey, Wesley, Aspen, Mable and Galen; sister Patricia “Pat” Wood of Aldergrove, BC; sisters-in-law Joyce (Don) Legere, Linda Fenwick, Eleanor Flynn and Sheila (Jim) Bartlett; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Ernest was predeceased by his son, Jerry; sisters, Ruth Marshall and Wilma Ryder, his brother, Wendell McFadzen and grandson Daniel. The ‘will do’ attitude was the template of his life and he was recognized by various organizations throughout his long life. As a coach, manager and organizer with NB Amateur Hockey, Nashwaaksis Y’s Men Service Club, Welsh Society, York Manor, Northside Heritage Association and many other behind the scene operations. Ernie made his opinion heard by sending hundreds of published letters to the editors of the Daily Gleaner. He accepted the Y’s Men Lifetime Member Award, Hockey NB’s J. Charles Daigle Award and culminating with a Holder of the Canadian Governor General Golden Jubilee Medal. The family extends its sincere thank you to the staff at the DECH and York Care Centre for their kind and compassionate care of Ernie. Visitation will take place a York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 75 Main Street on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Ranson officiating. Interment will take place in St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the St. John the Anglican Church Cemetery.
