Life Legacy
The passing of George Robert “Bob” Capen of Fredericton, NB, occurred on April 22, 2018 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on July 25, 1946 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late George and Gertrude (Hayes) Capen. He graduated from FHS in 1964, and went on to graduate from St. Thomas University with a Masters Degree in Education with a Major in History. He was a teacher in Stanley for 48 years, where he coached high school volleyball and other sports. In his younger years he enjoyed traveling and Old Orchard Beach held a special place in his heart, as we camped there many summers growing up. He also spent a lot of his travel time visiting the Caribbean Islands. Bob would gather sneakers (a favourite with the Islanders) from his students and friends, and deliver them to the children on the Islands who had none. There was much excitement when Bob would arrive. with sneakers in all sizes.
Bob is survived by his sisters, Bette Miles (George) and Mary Killam (late Alfred Killam); his nieces and nephew, Beverley Miles, Carrie Miles (Christian Guitard), Chris Miles (Melanie Gautreau), Katie Miles (Evan Ferguson), Sheri Killam of Victoria, BC and Lori Aitken (Doug) of Calgary, AB and several great nieces.
Bob was affiliated with St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church. In keeping with Bob’s wishes, there will be no services at this time. However a gathering of family and friends, and the interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New Brunswick Kidney Foundation, Alzheimer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
