Obituary of Joseph Barrett

We are saddened to announce the passing of Joseph Edward Barrett, husband of Bertina (Norris) Barrett which occurred on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton, NB. Born on March 28, 1926 in L’Ardoise, Cape Breton, NS, Joseph was the son of the late Annis and Mary Elizabeth (Mannette) Barrett. Joseph was an Optician and started his own business Aries Optical in 1973. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 4 and a member of St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church of Fredericton. In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his children, Wayne Barrett (Marlene) of Florida, Belinda Thebeau (Paul) of Miramichi, NB, Tina Frontin (Bill) of Minto, NB and Paul Barrett (Heather) of Fredericton, NB; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his brother,Walter Barrett; sisters, Margaret Hood, Kay Clannon and Florence Burns. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive Fredericton NB, on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 6 to 9 pm. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Fredericton Branch #4 are asked to assemble on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 5:45 pm for a tribute service. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 11 am from St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church with Father John Jennings as celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Special thank you to the staff of the Veterans Health Unit for the wonderful care they provided during Joseph’s time there.
