Obituary of Bertha Carlisle
The passing of Bertha Irene Carlisle, of Fredericton, wife of the late Walter Carlisle, occurred on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on November 25, 1923, in Upper Durby, NB, she was a daughter of the late Myles and Melissa (McKinley) McKinnon. Bertha graduated as a Nurse from the Victoria Public Hospital in 1946, she then spent her career in nursing at the VPH, DECH and the DVA. She was an avid reader, enjoyed travelling, her bridge friends and loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bertha is survived by her daughter, Karen Schick of Vernon, BC; her sons, Burton (Cathy) and Peter Carlisle both of Fredericton; grandchildren, Leanne (Charles), Laura (Jeramy), Amanda, Christopher (Wendy), Craig (Kelsey) and Andrea (Jon); great grandchildren, Xenia, Shayla, Sidney, Josh, Peyton, Kassidy, Charli, Cameron, Cash, Noah and David; sister, Doris Siddall of Cassilils; brothers, Wilson “Bill” (Barb) of Osoyoos, BC and Ross (Lorna) McKinnon of Kingston, ON and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Karen Carlisle; her son-in-law, Lynwood Schick; siblings, Charlie, Leslie, Donald, James and Percy McKinnon, Hattie Williston, Douglas and Bruce McKinnon.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Monday, March 23, 2015 from 10-11am. A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 11 am with Rev. J. D. Kennedy officiating. Honourary Pallbearers for the service will be her granddaughters, grandsons, great grandson representing the great grandchildren, and special nephew, Robert McKinnon. Interment will take place in Douglas Rural Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Hospice Fredericton or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
