Obituary of Clinton McLean

Surrounded by his loving family, Clinton (Clint) McLean of Fredericton, New Brunswick, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. A devoted husband and father, Clinton will be profoundly missed by his wife Wendy (Wolman), daughter Kira McLean (Mike Belyea) and son Colin McLean who were the light of his life. Born on December 22, 1954, a native of Cambridge Narrows, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Cash and Rillie (Biggar) McLean. In addition to his wife and children, Clint is survived by sisters Madeline (Lloyd) Sleep, Kierstead Mountain; Diane McLean (Jim) Heywood, Montreal; Brenda McLean, Connecticut; and Nilah (Paul) Scully, Hampton; brother, Russ (Sheila) McLean, Kuwait; eight nieces and nephews: Derrick and Krista Sleep; Lynn Heywood-McLean (Andrew Knott); Tara St. Germaine; Candace Farris (Charles Armstrong); Hillary Scully; Alex McLean (Claire Gallant) and Nick McLean; six great nieces and nephews: Lauryn Wilks; Meghan and Ella Knott; Max and Ben Armstrong; Cash and Polly Gallant-McLean. Clinton is predeceased by his sister Donna (Robert E.) Murray. Clint loved life and had many interests including entertaining, fine dining, travel and music. Clint enjoyed a well spoken phrase, a clever observation or insightful retort. With his quiet intelligence and quick wit he could move from writing an article on Verticillium Wilt to analyzing why his favourite hockey team was doing well or struggling in the playoffs. Above all Clint enjoyed and loved his family. To Clint, family was everything; and no amount of trouble, sacrifice or inconvenience was too much. Clint was a Graduate of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College (Dalhousie University) and of Guelph University. He was also an active member of his Alumni associations, serving as Vice-President and President for the Agricultural College Alumni. Clint served on the Agricultural Institute of Canada Board of Directors, and on numerous institute committees. A large part of his professional life was devoted to supporting the cultivation of Forage crops. He served as the chair of the Atlantic Forage crops Advisory committee and represented the Atlantic Provinces at the National Expert committee on Forage. Clint was a distinguished and valued member of the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture, taking a leading role in innumerable initiatives to support the farmers of Atlantic Canada. His career was that of a scientist with a human touch. His influence in the agricultural community will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held at the Delta Hotel, Fredericton, on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 1 pm with a reception to follow. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com.
