Obituary of Stuart Norton

The passing of Stuart Owen Norton of Fredericton, NB, husband of Elsie M. (Loxton) Norton, occurred on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on October 31, 1923 in Krugersdorp, Transvaal, South Africa, he was a son of the late Arthur and Grace (Thriena) Norton. Stuart served in the RRAF. Stuart was a general foreman at Noranda Inc. Organizations. He was a member of St. George’s Anglican Church in Bathurst, NB and the church choir. Stuart belonged to the Masonic Lodge #27, Bathurst; Scottish Cultural Society; Order of the Eastern Star and the Shriners. He enjoyed music especially light symphony and stamp collecting. In addition to his wife, Stuart is survived by his daughter, Merrill Susak (Nicholas) of Fredericton, NB; son, Dr. Stuart Norton (Ruth) of Fredericton, NB; son-in-law, Mike Wood (Mary) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Christopher Wood, Michelle Leigh Landry (Ken), John-Derek “JD” LeJeune (Andrea), Gary Beatty, Jillian Norton (Adam) and Graham Norton (Marie); sisters, Mavis A. Smith and Daphne E. Burns both of South Africa and Anita M. Heyneke of Zimbabwe, Africa; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Stuart was predeceased by two daughters, Cheryl Norton and Judith Norton Wood. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 2-4 pm. A Masonic Lodge Service will take place at York Funeral Home on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:45 pm followed immediately by an Order of the Eastern Star Service. Funeral Service will be take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Sunday January 12, 2014 at 2pm with Canon John Cathcart officiating. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Anglican Church Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
