Garth B. Williams

1938 – 2024

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Garth after a lengthy illness. He was the only child of the late Hartley and Alice (Scott) Williams.

Garth is survived by his loving wife, Gaynel (Trail) Williams, supportive partner, friend, confident in life for 67 years; daughter, Kim Pacey (Peter) and her children, Michael MacDonald (Taylor) of Vanderhoof, BC, Scott MacDonald (Gwynne) of Fredericton, NB; daughter in law, Wendy Williams (late Andrew Williams) and her children, Dr. Matthew Williams (Sarah), Berni Lyn Williams,  four great grandchildren, Jayla and Lincoln MacDonald, Jack and Warren Williams; godson, Brent Taylor of Sudbury, ON, extended family three step grandchildren, Simon (Holly), Sarah (Steve) and Will (Melissa) Pacey and two step great grandchildren, Desmond and Marigold; sisters-in-law, Nonie Taylor (late Douglas) of Sudbury, ON, Mavis Brown (Ralph) of Fredericton, NB and Areta Trail (late Fred) of Fredericton, NB; brother-in-law, Neill Trail (Linda) of Brockville, ON; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was sadly predeceased by his two beloved sons, Steven Williams (1964) and Andrew Williams (2021); and brother in law, Donald Trail.

Family held a very special place in his heart. He constantly went above and beyond to ensure their happiness and well being and enjoyed his time with them at the cottage, hockey rinks and events that were important to them. Leaving them a legacy of great memories and his strong work ethic.

Garth was a man of many interests, particularly enjoying the great outdoors and all it had to offer. Sports also played an important part of his life, as a player, coach and sponsor.

He was a pioneer insurance agent for State Farm Insurance in the Fredericton area, where he started a scratch agency and operated out of his office on Main Street for over 30 years.

In addition to his noteworthy professional accomplishments, he was also an active community participant, giving generously of his time and resources to help make his community a better place.

He was a man of faith and member of Douglas Baptist Church, serving on various boards and committees. He served a term as president for Fredericton North, a founding member of Fredericton Sports Investment, Century Club YMCA and several other organizations.

He and Gaynel also enjoyed travelling to many parts of Canada, USA, Europe, China, Australia and New Zealand.

In keeping with Garth’s request, there will be no visitation or service. A private internment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

“My chains are gone! I’ve been set free! My God, my Saviour has ransomed me”

The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to the many doctors, nurses and medical people who helped Garth through his many medical challenges over the past 36 years.
