One of my most memorable summers was that of 1975 when I worked along side George and a Chinese summer student named Johnny Sung for LR I S. We spent most of that summer working out of Middleton, Nova Scotia and surveying up through the Annapolis Valley. Later in the summer we worked in Cape Breton along the Cabot Trail. George was our party chief as well as our taxi back and forth to N.B. when we did go home for a weekend. On our trips back and forth George always tried to make room for hitch hikers. There was once we had 9 people in that little and I think it was a stick shift which did not help. In the evenings we often toured around what sites there were in the area and at the motel George taught us a few card games as Johnny had never played any. Some evenings Johnny taught us martial arts moves. We even did some jogging. It was a great time. I’m very sorry to hear of George’s passing. Steven R. Saunders
