It is with immense sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Thomas “Tom” David Steeves of Fredericton, New Brunswick after a brief and courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, at the age of 64, in Saint John, New Brunswick. Born on December 11th, 1959 in Moncton, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Stella Bradford and Charlie Steeves.

Dad is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Chrystal; daughters, Kayla, Heidi (Taylor); and the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Edie. He also leaves behind his sister, Barbara (Venning); brothers, Brian (Janice), Mark (Patricia) and Allan Smith (Patsy); as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Dad is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Paula; and his brothers, Charlie Jr. and Donnie Smith.

Dad was a dedicated employee of the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital for 27 years, where he served as manager of the Environmental Services Department.

Dad took immense pride in his family. Often described as lovingly curmudgeonly by his wife and daughters, he was the kind of man you could count on for anything – from disposing of apartment mice to driving us through winter storms to helping create budgets to keep us on track financially (much to our chagrin). He was also an immaculate host, always concerned with making sure that any and all visitors to his home were cared for with good food, good drinks, good music, and good laughs.

He will be forever remembered for his love of Caesars, steak, music, the Toronto Maple Leafs (better luck next year, Dad!).

A Celebration of Life will be held at York Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024 at 2:00 pm. A reception at York Funeral Home will follow the service. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Trisha Daigle-Maloney, Katelyn, Jesse, and the rest of the 5th floor Oncology unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Your kindness and care for Dad will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation (Oncology).
