Riley, Peter Arthur Thomas

Surrounded by his loving family, Peter Arthur Thomas "Pat" Riley of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Helen (Mitchell) Riley, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, at York Care Centre. Born on April 28, 1923, in Chilcote Leistershire, England, he was the son of the late John and Grace (Deverell) Riley.

Pat immigrated to Canada at the age of 8 along with his father, mother and 6 siblings. They settled in Tracy NB and began to work the farm. Land was being given away to attract settlers from England. The next time he would see England was when he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 17. Pat was a proud WWII veteran who served his country with pride. Altogether, 5 siblings enlisted with 4 of them joining the war effort overseas. All 4 retuned home safely.

Pat was a gifted carpenter who paid attention to detail. He believed if something was worth doing, it was worth doing it right. He always took great care in all of his work. Whether it was a house, a set of cupboards, or a gift for a loved one, he put his whole heart into it. As great of a carpenter that he was, the thing he built that was the most beautiful and lasting, will always be his family; we learned to love by his example.

Pat, Dad, Pup will be forever missed and never forgotten by all those who knew and loved him.

Pat is survived by his sons, Randy Riley (Lynn), Peter Riley (Vilma), Mark Riley (Kristy), and daughter-in-law, Linda Riley; 14 grandchildren, many great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to the love of his life, Helen, Pat was predeceased by his son, Gary Riley, all of his siblings, sisters, Lila Riley and Mary Lewis (Ernie); brothers, Hugh Riley (Gladys), Alec Riley (Ada), Jack Riley (Thelma) and Stan Riley (Lillian).

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 12-2pm and 4-6pm. A celebration of life will take place at HopeCity, 429 Clements Dr, Fredericton, NB on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 11am with Rev. Beesley officiating. Interment will take place in the Sunnybank Cemetery, at a later date. For those who wish, donations may be made to York Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice.
