Obituary of Donald Stephen Lamey

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The passing of Donald “Don” Stephen Lamey, husband of Karen (Meehan) Lamey of Fredericton, NB, occurred on Friday, December 29, 2023 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital after a very short illness.  Born on May 21, 1950 in New Glasgow, NS, he was the son of the late John Lamey of Westville, NS and the late Evelyn Lamey of Durham, NB.

In addition to his loving wife of 37 years, Don is survived by his daughter, Kim Jones of Florenceville-Bristol; grandchildren, Maggie and Jack Jones of Florenceville-Bristol; children from his previous marriage, Carmen, Brad and Ryan; several other extended family members.

Don spent the majority of his life working in basically any position that struck his fancy at the time. He was truly a "Don"-of-all-trades and loved doing a variety of things and meeting new people. From working in car dealerships around the city in service and sales, to spending years working for the City of Fredericton and the Province of New Brunswick, time spent working at Costco talking to old friends and new, and selling all those great samples, and then back to his life-long love of driving for Enterprise, he never wanted to sit still for long.

July 4, 1978 Don found fellowship and sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous.  Over those 45 years, he helped scores of people on their own journeys in sobriety and in service he found friends and family.  Every connection he made through the program he cherished and they all meant so much to him.

Later in life, Don and Karen found another fellowship at Smythe Street Church.  Faith became such an integral part of his life.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm.  There will be a celebration of his life held at Smythe Street Church, 913 Smythe Street, Fredericton, NB on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 2 pm under the care of the pastoral staff, with a reception to follow.  Interment will be in Upper Durham Memorial Cemetery, Durham Bridge at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com

To laugh often and much; to win the respect

of the intelligent people and the affection of children;

to earn the appreciation of honest critics

and endure the betrayal of false friends;

to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others;

to leave the world a bit better

whether by a healthy child, a garden patch,

or a redeemed social condition;

to know that one life has breathed easier

because you lived here.

This is to have succeeded.
