My sincere condolences to Don's family and friends. I will always remember Don's kindness as in 1986 he and his wife gave me a drive to an event in Halifax. I will always appreciate their thoughtfulness.

Condolences to Karen and the family on Don's passing from this life to one where the pain is gone and his smile remains as wide as can be. I value my time knowing Don through, Enterprise, Car Sales, being greeted at Costco, Riverview Ford and Smythe Street. Another G double O D man has passed on to Glory!

Very sorry to hear of Don’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Don at Trius Disposal. He was known as Recycle One. He kept the place laughing with his quick wit and humour. He will be missed. Bob&Wendy Hay

Uncle Don came into my life when I was young. Memories from those naive times are always general, more feelings than specific, and maybe not entirely accurate. What I think I remember, is that he arrived in our bigger Meehan family at a time a when Auntie Karen and my cousin Kim were looking for some stability. Being always pleasant, smiling, and full of jokes, this made him instantly likable, which he seemed to do the trick. The fact that Nana and Auntie Carolyn (God Bless Their Souls) loved him was a strong positive sign.
In my recollection of events, he was working at one of the local car dealerships at the time. I quickly gained a sense that moving between different jobs was just part of who he was. The fact that he did it with style, and low drama, helped me learn that people can do things differently. Even to a young child, Uncle Don would share openly his earlier challenges with addiction, and how positive changes led him to be the person he was. This made an early impression on me that you can tackle big challenges and survive.
Not much changed for Don from those memories from the ‘80s to now. Even with some recent bouts of medical challenges, he was always a joker, always on to new endeavours, always smiling, always pleasant, always respectful of people and God, and always surviving. Growing up, I took this for granted; this is how good people are. Now older, I see that Don knew life for the struggle that it is – but to love and laugh through it. This is one of those most human things, but I’ve since learned, not very a common understanding across people.
I hope that in this difficult time, we are all thinking about those things that made Don special to each of us. Especially for Auntie Karen, my cousin Kim, and his wonderful children Maggie and Jack, whom I know are all grieving for his loss.

Don was a great encouragement to me in my early years of sobriety. He was always able to make me see the bright side and I found healing also through humor for the first time in my life ... a precious gift. He helped many and his legacy lives on. I am sure he is now with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
