Ever since our first meeting at Ian and Charlie's place at 106 Fentiman through the 21 Fentiman days, I consider Garth to be my closest friend. We kept in touch after his move to Toronto, Iqaluit and eventually back to Fredericton.
So many memories... Fredericton,
Stanley, The Beaches, Merida, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia...
No matter where... Garth's love of life and his circle of true friends was always a pleasure to be part of.
Garth will always claim a starring role in my fondest memories.
For that, I will be eternally grateful.

Dear Ian and Kim,
Please receive my deepest sympathy on the loss of your dear brother Garth. Gilles de Chantal (my partner) liked him a lot, as I sensed from everyone who meet him always had a good word and liked a good laugh with him.
May your good memories of him soften your loss

To Ian and Family:
Although hazy, I am pretty sure the first time I met Garth was at the "Wheeler Hilton" back in the early 70s, listening to Garlin Jeffries with friends Del and Davido.....great times then. I cannot improve on the kind words written here about Garth. He was just a kind soul and a very interesting person. We both travelled quite a bit and had discussions about some of the places we had been and I believe the last time I bumped into him was at the round table at the Rogue in '19......
I also used to kid him about where he settled - in my part of the world, South Devon. Anyway, this sad news was a real shock to me and I send my sincere condolences to Ian and the family. Garth was a unique person - the smile was infectious !

Garth ad I were introduced through an extraordinary circle of friends in Ottawa nearly four decades ago. It was easy to be captivated by his boyish good looks, charming smile, and overall kindheartedness.
On breaks to Canada from my job in Philadelphia, Garth and I visited art galleries in Ottawa and walked along the Rideau Canal. In Toronto, he showed me fun places on King Street ( we were young). And, he even took me to a memorable hockey game in Montreal!
When he visited Philadelphia, Garth, a terrific conversationalist, easily meshed with my family and friends.
With Garth’s passing, I am truly sad that we have lost such a dear, sweet man—but his enchanting spirit lives on through so many cherished memories.

So deeply sorry to know that a dear friend is gone, forever. From our first meeting in 1987, I knew I had a friend for life. We lived together, worked together, ate and drank together over many of the past 35 years. In later years, Garth's cottage became the focus of summer vacations for many of us. I can still hear his distinctive laugh, taking the sting out of the most dire of circumstances. Garth just seemed to be able to make you feel better... about anything. His large group of long-term friends is a testament to how loved Garth was.
Rest In Peace my friend.

Ian, Kim and families,
Deepest condolences from Iqaluit where Garth was a friend to many and honourary uncle to our girls. (Who still called him Uncle ‘Garf’ even after they could say Garth.) Garth was always full of laughs - his laugh could brighten the darkest room. He would forever be humming or whistling a tune. And while we have great memories of shared meals, volunteering together at the annual elders dinner, exciting aviation adventures in -50 weather, our favourite memory is the adventure we shared of traveling to India for a friend’s wedding. We were so blessed to share that adventure with Uncle Garth.
Garth was one in a million and he will be missed by many up in Iqaluit. You’re in our thoughts.

Ian, Kim & Families ,
We will always remember Garth as being so very kind.We loved his easy going manner & infectious smile.
Garth was the sort of person you just know is good.
Years ago we all had wonderful times at the lake in Port Elgin.
As kids we were so impressed to hear Garth & Ian playing ( The house of the rising sun on guitar & drums.
Another sweet memory is Garth bringing a black & white kitten home to the cottage, he named it Lucky.
In later years Garth had some especially fascinating travel stories.
We are thinking of you all at this immensely sad time & keeping you close in thought.

Having walked many paths together with Garth I learned several things. Though he had a love of art and collected various pieces over time, I feel he had a greater passion. Garth loved people and with his easy go personality built many close relationships that he valued above simple material things. I was fortunate to win his friendship as others had and will miss him very much.
Smooth Travels Garth.

Dear Ian, Bev and Family,
So very sorry to hear this sad news. It was always fun to run into you guys at Harvest and hang-out listening to some great music!
In past years, the Friday Happy Hour crew at the Rogue was guaranteed to bring a few good laughs, or animated debates about this or that. Garth was a sweetheart - gone too soon.
My Deepest Condolences,
Marianne
