Obituary of Mervel Freeman Howe

The passing of Rev. Mervel Freeman Howe of Fredericton, NB, husband of June (Sowers) Howe, occurred on September 12, 2023 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.  Born on March 11, 1936 in Geary, NB, he was the son of the late Herbert and Harriet (Harrison) Howe. 

Mervel was very proud of his service to God over the last 50 yrs. He was an assistant pastor at his church and had a love for people like no other. He would strike up a conversation with a stranger and tell anyone who would listen about his walk with God. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with his whole heart. Mervel loved music and could pick up and play almost any instrument he wanted too. He loved his guitar and mouth organ most of all. The love he had for his wife was like no other. She was perfect in his eyes. He will be forever missed by his family and his friends.

Mervel is survived by his children, Andrew Howe (Pam), Edna Grandy (Todd), Harriet Jordan, Kathy Howe, Mel Howe (Kathy), Jeremy Howe and Earla Flinn (Kevin); sister, Meretta McCutcheon (Bob); brothers Milford Howe (Marge), Emery Howe, Arthur Howe (Lillian) and Jim Howe (Tina); 18 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his, brothers Perley and Orial Howe; sisters, Muriel Carr, Cleta Grasse and Nellie Mallaley.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm.  The funeral service will take place at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 2 pm with Rev. Lewis Seeley officiating.  Interment will take place in the Ripples Community Cemetery.
