Obituary of Elzbieta Anna Steinhoff

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elzbieta “Ela” Anna Steinhoff, peacefully at her home in Birdton, New Brunswick, with her husband and mother by her side, on July 18, 2023.  Ela will be deeply missed by her devoted husband James; her three children, whom she adored, Oliver, Conrad and Clara; her mother Alicja Pitek; her sister Ewa Pitek (David); several extended family members in Poland and Australia, in-laws in Ontario and British Columbia, and dear friends throughout the world.

Ela was born on September 28, 1977 in Wroclaw, Poland to  Alicja (Sliferz) Pitek and the late Leszek Pitek (1955 - 2023). She immigrated to Canada with her parents and sister in 1989, and in her youth, volunteered with a local hospital hospice program. She graduated from Waterloo University (BA) in 1999, and was married to James in 2002 in Kitchener, Ontario where they met. Ela worked as a grade school teacher in Woodstock, Ontario for many years before fully switching to homeschooling programs with her three children. Ela and her kids volunteered with the Angel Breakfast Program in Woodstock. She liked to crochet and would donate hats for infants to local hospitals as well. For hobbies, she enjoyed walking, hiking, swimming and many other activities with her children. Ela was a very caring and loving person who thrived at helping her friends and family. A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 1 William Street, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 11 am with Father Maria Arokiam Chinnappan officiating.  A Celebration of Life will be held in Ontario on a later date to be announced.
