My sincerest condolences to Ela’s family. She was an amazing woman whom I had a chance to go to high school with. Her positive energy wit and enthusiasm for life was amazing. Her love for her children, husband and family unconditional. She will be deeply missed. RIP friend.

A great teacher, a wife, a mother and a good friend. Heavy hearts with the news. Hugs to Jamie, Oliver, Conrad and Clara and the rest of the family. First met Ela as she was my oldest son, Jordan's grade 4/5 teacher at Trinity. Later years, many playdates and laughs together with my youngest son. Fly Angel Fly!

I heard the news 2 days ago and my heart shattered. I couldn't believe it! As I was processing it, I was thinking of all the memories I had of how great you are as a friend, as a teacher and as a mother. You were one of the best teachers I had. I'm glad we stayed in touch all these years! You taught me so much but also we had so much fun doing it. We had our jokes where we would embarrass each other but we both knew it was just for more laughs! Keep smiling up there, until we meet again!

Ela was my good friend. She was so funny and down to earth. We were young and naive when we met. Our friendship remained no matter the distance. I am so saddened that she is no longer with us.
godzinę śmierci naszej. Amen. Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee.
I will miss you my independently minded brave friend.
My deepest condolences to Jamie, Oliver, Conrad and Clara, Ela’s Mama and sister Ewa. I hope to give my condolences in person when I return to Canada.

Completely heartbroken!
Still in disbelief that we will never get to share a funny conversation on a video call again… or even that promise to one day catch up in person again.
From all the snippets where I had Ela in my life - in person or via long distance calls…here is what I know about Ela…
I was taught to be kind and caring through the ever present story my parents retold of young Ela sharing her last strawberry with her younger sis Ewa…
And so I always wanted to be kind and caring like my big cousin Ela.
I wanted to be like my big cousin because she did all the coolest things. It seemed there was nothing she couldn’t do… if she wanted something, she would find a way to do it.
She traveled to all these countries on exchange programs, she spoke like a gazillion languages, held some pretty cool- odd jobs… driving instructor???… in 2005 had a decent supply of sanitizers and magic pens to remove stains on the go. Instead of leaving through the door to go for an early morning McDonald’s run, Ela had us climb out of the window, so as not to wake up her husband and his band mates…
Ela somehow always managed to make life exciting! And she would always make everyone feel special even the younger, much younger than her cousins…. Or a complete stranger!
One particular story stuck with me over the years, as told to me by my aunt Ala.
Ela and James were on their way to their wedding when their car broke down. While James got onto it pretty quick, Ela rolled up the sleeves of her wedding dress and was right there beside him fixing it. They finally arrived to their wedding; Ela in her slightly greased dress. When it was time to give each other the rings, Ela put the bouquet of flowers that were just in her hands, into her mouth so she could slip the wedding band onto Jamie’s finger. Although these aren’t my memories, these were the stories that I held onto over the years in awe of this incredible (feels weird to say woman because to me Ela was always this dorky, fun, girl. So let’s say cousin). These stories inspired me to be a better human. I want to be just like my big cousin Ela….
These stories, also capture who Ela was! Always quick to roll up her sleeves and help where help was needed. She had a wicket sense of humour and an infectious laugh. One could not help but laugh … with her or at her I’m sure she didn’t care… she just wanted people to be happy and she made sure everyone felt special.
Over a couple of beers she told me this piece of advice: “Learn to do as many things as you can, so you never have to rely on a man”… but I believe she chose you Jamie because your kind heart and patient nature allowed Ela to be herself… you two were the perfect couple ❤️
There’s so much more I want to say to honour this divine human but at the same time I feel no amount of words can ever do justice to this larger than life Earth Angel.
Some Angels have wings, some… have crazy ideas and the most infectious laughter…
Will miss you bud
Till we meet again ❤️

Dear Ela and Family,
I walked into my Critical Thinking Class at the University of Waterloo. Professor Wubnig. It was a lonely place.
Then I saw a cool looking girl with a pickle green jacket, the very same pickle green jacket I was wearing, which I knew had been purchased from the Price Club.. this gave me a reason to start a conversation with Ela.
From that point on we were friends and I was no longer lonely. I had found a friend for life.
We had lots of coffees and many rants together. Ela lived in Bremner Hafen before she immigrated to Canada. She spoke German well, or at least understood everything I was saying. We listened to Sarah McLachlan together, drove around aimlessly, young, wild and free. No matter how much time lapsed when we met again and spent time, it was always the same. We laughed and laughed. Not many can get me to laugh. But Ela could.
She has left earth and it feels that a part of my soul is gone .. but I can’t be selfish .. she lives in her beautiful children.
"The Lord is near to the
brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18)
I can’t even express the loss I feel right now. I hope to share memories at a memorial in Ontario when I return from overseas. I am German with polish heritage, this summer I am visiting Ela’s birthplace Warsaw for the first time…how fitting.
I will raise a glass to you there Ela.
I regret no time spent with you.
I do regret not spending more time with you.
Für immer bleibst du in mein Herz.
Deine Anja.
Danke das du immer für mich da warst.
Over the past years we prayed together, I will continue to pray for you and your family. I hope to see the kids and Jamie, and resume annual Christmas visits.
Thank You for being such a good friend to me.

Nearly every summer, Ela and I would visit Clovermead Adventure Farm with the kids. Ela was the type of parent that would play along with the kids. We have numerous pictures over our many visits there with Ela bravely jumping on the big, yellow, jumping pillow while I not so bravely would stand and take the photos.

I moved to Woodstock area, a first time mom and not knowing many people.
Shortly after I met Ela and her 2 boys, Oliver and Conrad.
We began going on morning walks and park play dates with the boys.
We shared many birthday parties and other fond memories.
Ela was a very strong, kind and thoughtful person. She was an extraordinary mother to her 3 children.
Even if we didn’t chat for a while, a package would show up on the doorstep to let you know she was still thinking of you.
My deepest sympathies to Elas family - Jamie, Oliver, Conrad and Clara

Ela was a strong woman, a fabulous mother, and a great friend. We supported each other over the years as we raised our little ones. There were many play dates, birthday parties, and walks to Southside Park. She was the queen of a great "ding, dong, ditch." We would open the door to find a bag of treats for Eloise. Our hearts are with Jamie, Oliver, Conrad and Clara as they journey forward in their grief. Our arms and hearts are wrapped around you from afar. It is so hard to say goodbye. You will be missed, dear friend.
