I enjoyed getting to know Dave when he supply taught at HTHS and joined us for cards at the Moncton Press Club. Dave was quick with a story, he liked interacting with students, sharing an opinion or laugh. He'll be missed.

Q: What will you never forget about David?
A: To the family, you have my deepest sympathies. I knew Dave in several different ways. As a parent in my younger years. As a guidance councillor and high school baseball coach as I got older. My best memories of Dave are from baseball. I got back into baseball again as a parent and got to know Dave on a more personal level. Shared some great moments together. One of Dave's best quotes as a coach was "get em on, get em over and get em in". I'll never forget that. I use those same words with the teams I coach now.

Dear Viota and Family:
Ray and I were so shocked to hear of
David’s passing. He was one of the first
people that we met when we moved to
Riverview and had many baseball connections with him over the years. Our sons have many stories
of him through the years. He certainly was a
character. He will be missed.

I remember well those days at Trimble when David and my husband, David, were counsellors together.
We shared many happy times together when you boys were so young. Life’s pathways took us in different directions but I am thankful for having known David.
God bless you all in these days of grieving and may His grace give you comfort and peace.

Q: What will you never forget about David?
A: My condolences to Dave's family.
Mr. Burrell was our Guidance Counsellor at TVHS in Plaster Rock and he was one of my favorite people. I had a challenging teenage life and was conflicted about my career options but he was able to provide so much help and guidance to me. He helped me select Dalhousie for my undergrad education, having brought in so many great presenters from various educational institutions. I thought he was a terrific listener and a fantastic guy! Unfortunately I didn't keep in touch with him but I had heard he moved to Moncton.

Dave was my baseball coach when I was 9 years old, he was the best coach I ever had. I had him as a sub the following year and treated us like we were high schoolers by giving us breaks to roam around between subjects. I remember thinking how cool he was back then, and now as a 26 year old man, that hasn’t changed. RIP to this wonderful man.

We are thinking of you all during this difficult time and send our deepest condolences. It was a great pleasure getting to know him and spending a special week in Mexico for a wedding celebration. We shared an outdoor lunch with David and Viota, overlooking the beautiful beach and ocean. Rest in peace David "Bumpa".

Dave was my baseball coach when I was in grade 4. He always focused on fun - we were not a competitive team, and he wanted to make sure everybody had a turn and everybody had fun. He showed us how to work as a team and how to support each other as a team no matter what skills we brought.
It was one of my best years of playing baseball. Thanks Dave

I remember seeing David walking on Warren Avenue with a coffee mug in his hand, David always had a smile on his face and a friendly hello to anyone he met on his stroll.I remember one time, after the classes were over at RHS Tressa forgot her book at school during exam time, so I called David and we met him at the school and he let Tressa in so she could get her book. that is the kind of person David was. So sorry for your loss, You will all see David in heaven some day, but until then enjoy all your beautiful memories that you all shared together.May he rest in peace.

David and I attended Saint Thomas University together in the early 1960s. STU was in Chatham for our Freshman to Junior years. I certainly knew him during those years, and after graduation we both worked at HTHS. There is no mention of this in his Obit, but I believe Dave attended the University of Maine in Orono where he received his Masters Degree. One of his favorite pastimes was playing 45s. Noon hours at Trimble usually found Dave sitting at a table along with Dave Blakney, Don Morton, Woody Hayes, Marie Killam, Don Grant. Other teachers would sub in from time to time- Brian Forsythe, Bob Wallace, myself. These card games became the stuff of legend, at the school. Years later after most of us had retired the occasional evening would find nearly all of us at the Moncton Press Club for a night of cards. The competition was keen and boisterous. We enjoyed the company and comraderie. David Burrell was a colleague, a fellow sportsman, a good person, and a friend. I shall miss him, and there are others from within the teaching profession who I feel certain will think likewise.
