Obituary of David Leo Burrell
David Leo Burrell of Fredericton, NB, (formerly of Riverview, NB), husband of Viota (Bishop) Burrell, for 51 years, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2023 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on January 8, 1943 in Limestone Siding, NB, he was the son of the late Agatha (McCue) Burrell.
David grew up in Grand Falls. A graduate of St. Thomas University, he was a teacher in a few communities around the province before settling in Riverview in 1975 to begin as guidance counsellor at Harrison Trimble High School. A few years later, he began the same role at Riverview High School and he was an integral part of helping young people navigate their teenage years. While at RHS, Bomber Burrell captained the teachers’ floor hockey team, coached baseball and provided assistance to whoever needed it, whether a student or colleague. We know our father improved more smiles than an orthodontist. Outside of his education career, he served in municipal politics for a total of 9 years as a councillor. He loved his community and gave back in immeasurable ways.
David is survived by his children, Michael, Warren, David and Bridget; brother Charles; grandchildren, Brandon, Jacob, Amber, Breanne, Yuka, Aya, Eli and Ben; sisters-in-law, Ruth and Jesse; brothers-in law, Bryce, Lance, and Rance. He was predeceased by his brother Ron; sisters-in-law Dianne and Judy; brothers-in-law Stephen and Allen.
As per David wish, there will not be any services or visitation. Those wanting to celebrate his life are asked to make a donation to a charity of their choice in his memory or wear something colourful since his approach to life was exactly that - full of color.
