Obituary of Allison Herbert Whitehead

Please share a memory of Allison to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts; the family of Allison (Al) Herbert Whitehead share his passing. With his wife and daughters by his side, Al fought a complicated health battle over three weeks at the DECH and closed his eyes for the last time on Friday March 24, 2023.

A devout family man, proud grandfather, and friend, Al built a law practice over 47 years on Fredericton’s Northside – Whitehead Miles and Allen. Born on July 2, 1952 in Lower Hainesville, NB to Albert and Ethel (Caverhill) Whitehead, Al is now reunited with predeceased family and close friends.

Al met Marlene (McGuire) at Nackawic High School and later married building a family of three daughters; Jennifer Whitehead of Fredericton, Kate Whitehead (Brent Coutinho) of Halifax, NS, and Brittney Whitehead (Duke Allaby) of Fredericton. Surrounded by girls, Al’s heart was full having family together in the same room teasing and telling stories to his granddaughters Ella and Allison (Coutinho). Al also leaves behind his aunt Isabel (Izzy) Caverhill, sister-in-law Donna (Stairs) Hinton, cousins, Anne Caverhill Mann, Karen Caverhill, Jane Caverhill Coolen, Tom McGinn, Christine (McGinn) Kelly, Diane Caverhill, Herbie Caverhill, Connie (Caverhill) Black, Gloria (Caverhill) Jacobs, nieces Alissa Stairs, Natasha (Stairs) Fox, and Yolandra (Stairs) Jordan, along with several extended cousins.

Through the years, good times and mischief followed Al through grade school, hockey, baseball, fishing, and hunting, STU & UNB Law School, Liberal conventions, and his camp in Juniper. He was a man of few hobbies; work, the Yankees, work, 45’s, work, and red wine, yet each vice brought him joy, close friendships, and family. Anyone who knew him, knew he played hard and worked harder.

A lover of life, family-first, and a fighter, he will remain with us forever through our memories and everlasting life-lessons.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the health professional staff at the Doctor Everett Chalmer's Hospital from the ER to 4SE and his final days in the ICU. The care and compassion provided was exceptional and we are forever grateful.

A private funeral will be held at York Funeral Home with visitation at the Fredericton City Club on Friday March 31st from 3-7 pm. A celebration of life will be organized at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Fredericton SPCA, or an organization of choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
