Obituary of Grace Catherine Benson

With her husband at her side quietly singing a hymn, Grace Catherine Benson (Jones) passed away peacefully at the York Care Centre on Saturday March 11^th 2023; she was 88.  Although definitely a Maritime girl, Gracie was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to Salvation Army parents, the late Majors Isaac and Helen (Ladd) Jones; who soon after Grace was born, moved to Campbellton New Brunswick to continue their work and then St. Stephen where Grace finished her education and worked a short time at Ganong Brothers. It was then she met Roosevelt Theodore (Ted) Benson, whom she married on April 2, 1959.

Grace invested her life in her children and husband’s ministry which took them to various parts of Maine, Eastern and Central Canada.  After retiring they moved back to Fredericton New Brunswick.  Grace was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who found strength and comfort in her Christian faith. Grace enjoyed humor, reading, and listening to news talk shows—the good ones.  She will be deeply missed by Ted, her husband of 64 years and children, Melvin (Beth); Fenton and grandchildren Matthew (Melanie); Adam (Laura) and Justin.  The youngest of three, Grace was predeceased by her sisters Gwendolin, Alice Corey (late Claude), and brother William. With peace and joy, we know that together, they are now with Him upon Whom they set their hope. (2 Cor 1:10).

A Memorial Service will take place for Family and Friends on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial at 11 am with visitation at 10 am. Pastor Reg Thomas will be officiating. Grace’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the York Care Centre for their heartfelt care and concern during her stay.
