Lois, Andrew and Rob,
I just learned of Don's recent death from Ruth Faulkner from our Camp Kidston days. Don and my dad were very close in age and I have often wondered how he was doing. Don had such an important influence of me and so many of us at Kidston ---spending time on the lakes of Mooseland/Tangier Grand. I also remember being on and outdoor leadership trip with him and Andrew circa- 1986 in Kege and the Tobiatic. I remember one cold winter night after being at the Tatamagouche center for the weekend, Don drove me over to the Wentworth Valley to catch the Acadian lines bus back to Halifax. There was not stop--he stood out on the side of the road with both arms waving over his head--to flag the bus driver to stop. I am not sure that is how it is done now--likely not.
Many good memories! I hope you are all well

Some twenty plus years ago I attended a summer retreat at Seton Spirituality Centre in Terence Bay, NS, It was a directed retreat, and Don was my director. What a blessing! To this day I remember the excitement...and the joy...I experienced
because, finally, I felt like someone really "got me"...and "got" my spirituality. Don listened with his open and respectful spirit! I felt no tinge of having to coach my words in order for them to be understood...or accepted...by my director. What a freeing experience!
At the time I considered my experience with Don to be a true gift. And I still do!

I had the joy of meeting Don through a Shalem program that met online in 2021 and 2022. I am grateful for the way he asked questions and for his wisdom. He offered comments with both deep care and good humor. And when he laughed, it was pure joy to be able to be there and join in. I am sorry for your loss. He spoke about you, his family, with love and it seemed his was a life well-lived. May the Shalom of God surround you.

My condolences to Don's family and those closest to him. I experienced Don as a supportive and inspiring mentor and friend through his work at the Tatamagouche Centre and the Jubilee program. Although I didn't have much contact with him in recent years, running into him one day in Fredericton felt like a special gift. His was a life very well lived and his legacy lives on.

My Dear Lois, and all your and Don’s family.
I am so grieved to hear of Don’s death. Don was the largest of Spirit man I knew. We were together at the Centre and had many deep conversations. He was a mentor and enlarged my life. I loved the way he could lay down and nap anywhere, any time he needed it. He loved the wild, nature, the rivers and lakes. He deepened and broadened many a life. I am more a head person, while Don was a soul person, but we had much to share. He was 17 days younger than me.
May serenity be with you as the memories of your life with Don fill you with the fullness of your years.

Dear Lois, I was just informed this evening of Don's death. To you and to your sons and their children, my deepest condolences.
Don was a quiet but bright light in this world, I appreciated his steadiness, his astute observations and all he did for Wilmot during my time there. I think of him fondly, with respect and admiration for his calm demeanour, no matter what the issue.
Lois, may you find peace in the legacy of his life and in your long love for each other. My you find grace in the peaceful place that is his memory. Much love, Gayle MacDonald.

Dear Lois and Family,
I just heard the news today from the Tatamagouche Centre of Don's passing. I have such found memories of my time paddling in the Tobeatic and working along side Don to lead a number of Men's Wilderness Canoe trips there. Don was such a wise elder for me. He gave me his canoe which I had in the water last summer for a trip into Keji. He also gave me a map of Keji Lake before it became a park, which I've mounted and put on my wall. I was also fortunate enough to have interviewed him via zoom sometime during the pandemic to talk about this his love and inspiration in the Tobeatic. He made such big contribution to the outdoor community in NS. His memory and gifts of heart and soul live on in people like me. My deepest condolences for your loss. My life is richer for having known him.

Dear Don's Family - I had the pleasure of working with Don way back in 1991 (ish), when I filled in for the office secretary while she was on mat leave. There were three ministers there at the time, and it was a pleasure working with them all. For a while they lived in the shadow of Gil MacKenzie and they each had to establish their own niche in pastoral care. What I recall about Don is his quiet demeanor and enthusiasm for the men's retreats at Tatamagouche. One of my duties was to take messages and post them on a small bulletin board for the ministers to pick up when they came in - Don had a particular way he wanted his messages left - I'm trying to think how it was - maybe posted to his door - but it was important to him that they be left where he would be sure to see them. When my dad passed away in 1996, I called on Don to perform the spiritual part of the celebration of his life - he did exactly what we requested of him and let us run the rest of things, which we greatly appreciated.
My sincere condolences on your loss.

My deepest condolences to you all. Don and I led six or seven wonderful Mens canoe trips together in Tobeatic Wilderness area in NS. Andrew, of course, was on one of those and that was a special trip because of it. I just moved back to the maritimes after being away for the last 15 years and really hoped to see Don. He meant a lot to me. I loved running those trips with him. His calm nature taught me a lot about how to let nature do the magic with the men. We were a good complement together. He with his grapefruits pulled out of the bag and I managing the logistics and coffee! It makes me smile to remember back and sad he is gone. He touched many men on those trips, and as you know, his ripples will continue on for years. Lois, I never had the pleasure to meet you but you were certainly very pleasant and loved on those trips, that was clear.

Dear Members of Don's family,
Many years ago I was blessed to experience Don's leadership in the Atlantic Jubilee Program in Spiritual Direction, at Tatamagouche Centre. I delighted in his sense of humour, his deep spirituality and the way he nurtured that in others. His influence guided me to experience the awe of the holy in creation in an ever-more appreciative way. I will always treasure the impact he had on my life and the memories made with him during those years.
Peace and Blessings to you all,
Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Karen MacLeod-Wilkie

Don was so kind in sending me messages in my recent illness and treatment, even when he wasn't well himself.
I know he will be missed by a great many people including our Contemplative Pathways Associates group here in Fredericton. He had even volunteered to give a talk next week!
May you be surrounded by God's love and peace.

I was so sorry to learn of Don's passing. I got to know and respect Don through my work at Wilmot United.
I saw him on pretty well on a weekly basis because of his involvement in various groups. He was a man so knowledgeable of all things spiritual and was definitely a man well respected. I would often run into him at Black's in Harvey when he would be in Magaguadavic doing his research work. He never failed to take the time to stop and chat with me.Another memory I have relates to the Annual Reports I would prepare each year. It never failed - I would always have to contact Don to remind him his reports were due - this provided us each with a laugh as he promised to do better next year. I know he will be missed by many but he leaves a legacy that will not be forgotten.
