With an ever-present twinkle in her eye, Florence was a warm presence in our lives from the moment she moved next door. She was a security, a comfort. She never wanted to intrude, but only sought to connect in order to praise or sympathize—whatever was right for the moment.
She was a protector of children and animals, and she loved to give. Sometimes it was simply in supplying a recipe ingredient. When one of our neighbourhood kids seemed to be undernourished, she would send him home with food. Florence was “cofounder” of what we called the “Doug Moore Foundation” of benevolence, so interested in our children’s developing minds that she would supply them with perfectly good electronics for their treehouse or some other purpose, never batting an eye when they would take the objects apart, simply saying, “that’s how they learn!”
I remember her commenting as one little boy walked down the street wearing full cowboy attire, “That just makes my day!“ or in another context, “I hate clutter! My mother had clutter in her house, and I couldn’t stand it!” Yet she tolerated our children building treehouses and forts with whatever debris they found—building them right in her line of sight!
We loved talking with her about flowers, and the nature in our adjoining properties. We would call her with excitement about something we had seen, and she would reciprocate with questions like, “have you seen the ‘pile-ated’ woodpecker back there?”
We feel deep pain in her absence—grief that has been lengthy since Alzheimer’s slowly took her from us, and the pain continues as we write this. She and Doug have been, and will continue to be, part of who we are. While they are irreplaceable, we take great comfort in our continued relationships with Carolyn, Ryan, Carmen, Natalie, Feleena, Wayne, and their families. We are with you, and we thank God that we still have you in our lives.

Carolyn, Ryan, Carmen and family; so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I do remember joining in for some of those walks, the short ones through the woods and a very long to Mount Hope and back. I remember so many sunny and hot afternoons spent by the Nashwaak. She would keep a close eye on us from the shore while us kids cooled off in the water. Memories such as these you can always hold close even though your mom may be gone. RIP aunt Flo. ♥️

Florence was my mother's best friend when they were girls and in their teens. My mother loved her like a sister and over the years, told me many stories of when they were growing up. I loved visiting her, and then her and Doug and the kids. She had such a great sense of humor, wonderful laugh and such a zest for life.

Florence was my sister in law. I remember meeting her in the mid to late 50's. She gave me a red sweater which made be so happy because I didn't have a sister to exchange clothes with. She was always lovely to me. She was caring and looked after many people's children. She would always ask me what I thought of certain things (while I knew she had her own ideas). Did anyone else have this experience? Florence was a wonderful mother to her three children, preparing them for the future in a gentle way. We will remember her always. God bless Florence. Love, from Evangeline (Harry's wife)
