When I was very young between 12-15 I was a pretty bad kid ( until 23 when I left Saint John ) I was in YTC, which had a few names, Youth Training Centre, Kingsclear or as we called it, the boys home, in Kingsclear/Fredericton ( where I live now ). Of the 5 times I was in there, Brian was working there as a guard/attendant/counselor 4 times and he was a definite breath of fresh air!!! He treated us all like actual human beings, him, Rick Scott, Tom Dennis ( RIP ) and Mr Douthwhite, were the best people the government ever hired for that place, the rest, well, not so much and a few, including Toft, completely horrible!! Brian was such a great guy!! His nickname was Kenny, cuz as we all knew ( the folks from years ago ) he looked exactly like Kenny Rogers and we found out later that he was a musician, he played guitar great! I visited him one day, he was in his photography store on Queen Street and his memory was amazing, he knew exactly who I was after 18 years!!
Rest in Brian, you were DEFINITELY one of the GREAT ONES!!!!

Kathy, I just wanted to reach out to you to say how very sad I feel for the loss of your wonderful husband, and friend, Brian. For over a decade of years that I participated in the world, pond, hockey championships, Brian, treated myself, my son, and all my teammates on the Puckweisers like we were family. He was a gentleman, kind and wise and a true artist, who saw the world differently, and was able to communicate that in his photographs, and when you had a quiet conversation with him. I was going to drive up to plaster rock this week for the tournament even though I wasn’t playing to see a handful of people that I wanted to, especially Brian. But unfortunately I was not able to. I was crushed when I heard of his passing. I just wanted you to know that he gave such happiness to myself and my son, Corey and my teammates. My downstairs family room is covered with his photographs that I see every day and I smile when I think of him. He will remain a life friend for me. Peace to you and your family. Jim Menno. PS, the photo below says it all. That remains my favorite hockey sweater of all time.

Kathy & Kim, I was so very saddened to hear of Brian's passing. He was such a good friend to our family for many years, always popping in to see my parents on Christmas Eve back in the day. I remember when he was a teenager, and our family drove to Crabbe Mtn very weekend, we would stop and pick him up. He was an awesome skier and I so enjoyed our trips to the hill over the years. And as years went by between photography and horses we were always bumping into him and always with a smile and a hug. So very sorry for your loss, words can't express how much he will be missed. Thinking of you both, take care! Shelley (Manzer) Stilwell

Growing up in the Aitken Centre, Brian was a constant figure in my childhood. Over the years, he took countless photos of me on and off the ice with my grandfather, his friendly face was always around with a smile. He took some of my graduation photos and most recently, he photographed me in my very first remembrance day parade. I will forever cherish every single one of the pictures he took. He was a very lovely man, I was very sad to hear the news.

So very shocked when we told of his passing, not only was he a generous man with his work but with his time too. We have also known him for many years with our association with the UNB MENS HOCKEY team, he always got the perfect moment. Our favorite memory is back in Thunderbay in 2009 , and we were at the same hotel as the team and "we" had won the hockey nationals, well some how someone got the hotel to open up the pool, and the celebrations continued! Each player slid down the waterslide with Irene and there was Brian capturing those shots, but THEN it was his turn , and down he waterslide he came with the cup, but of course he wasnt on the other side of the lens to capture the moment , but we did, the smile on his face is forever in our minds, a kodak moment. So sad you cant read all the wonderful things people have said about you, and everyone of them is true. Make sure you have the camera ready for PEI BrIan! RIP

So sorry to hear of the passing of this great Man. Although I cannot count myself as one of his friends, I had more than a passing acquaintance with Brian, as I am also a Photographer, and have attended many events alongside him. In fact, he made arrangements for me to be able to shoot trackside at Miramichi on several occasions, providing me a pass, and even a set of ear defenders! I got a personally-guided tour of Greer's Graphics where he hung his hat of late, and we discussed the Drag racing scene and cars in Fredericton. I asked him to search his negative files for pictures he took in Pennfield back in 1969. He said he would try to find them. Now, I'll never get to see that early work of his. And I would imagine the archive of photos he amassed in his lifetime will be lost to time as well. Rest in Peace fellow Photog. You will be missed! My condolences to his family and friends.

Not sure what happened but it was running by the afternoon. Cathy I appreciated the times we had at lunch when you and Brian were in town. Brian and I first met at Sussex High around 1990 when he was doing school photos. We carried off many new and inspiring projects. Too many to mention. So sorry for your loss. Brian was in the hospital with my dad Mr.Magoo in 2007 and he did a beautiful tribute picture after my dad passed. Brian knew my family very well. Brian was an amazing man and will be missed. Sending thoughts and prayers to all his family

Dear Kathy, Kim, and family,
Please accept our condolences at Brian's sudden passing. He was all a good person could be in giving to others, regardless of the time or place. The world was a better place because of him. May God be with you as you grieve.
