McDonald-Harris, Shirley (Ward)

June 7, 1949- December 9, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Heather McDonald-Harris announce her sudden passing on December 9, 2022. Born in Doaktown, New Brunswick, Shirley was the daughter of Allan and Catherine (Hepburn) Ward. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Harris of 21 years. Ken was Shirley’s best friend, soulmate and caretaker until her recent hospital stay. Other than Ken, Shirley had two other great loves, her first husband, Ranald (Joe) and singer, Daniel O’Donnell.

Shirley will be greatly missed by her big brother, Raymond (Donna), two children Bonnie-Heather (Jim “JR”), and Ronald, whom she referred to as Angel #1 (Suzanne). Her grandchildren, Brittany (John), Ryan, Jordan (Taylor), Kaitlyn, a great-grandson, Oliver, and her stepchildren Jason, Chris, and Charlotte, as well as many nieces and nephews, and her life-long best friend, Sandra.

Shirley was one of the kindest people you’d meet. She had a huge heart and welcomed everyone into her home. She was referred to as “Momma Shirley” to many of Bonnie and Ronald’s close friends, whom she loved very much. She was a very proud grandmother and mother; her family was her life. There wasn’t a conversation she didn’t have where they snuck in. She was close to all of them, especially growing up within walking distance. Shirley, above all enjoyed dancing, when her first husband was alive, you’d find he and Shirley dancing in the kitchen when you’d walk into their house. She would move furniture just to be sure there was enough room to dance. Shirley also loved her animals, especially dogs. She leaves behind her faithful dog, Max and feline companion, Taffy. In addition to her parents and first husband, Shirley is predeceased by her good friend, Cathy.

As per Shirley’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral; however a celebration of life will take place at a later date. In memory of Shirley, donations can be made to the donor’s choice in lieu of flowers. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
