Kelli, Harrison, Luigi and family we are so sorry for your loss. May your memories of Roberto and the love of family surround you and give you comfort.
My fondest memories of Roberto are of his story telling. When home visiting from Alberta, our family always looked forward to Roberto dropping in and entertaining us with his humorous antidotes. He would always fill the room with laughter and joy.
Thinking of you and sending our love.

To Kelli and Harrison. Although we did not spend as much time together over the years, I knew Berto was a good man with great heart, love & laughter. I remember when you married Berto, the first & only 1 of the 4 of us to marry-I cried at your wedding not knowing this was indeed the true love of your life and thought marriage was such a risky venture. Little did I know that he was a love to last a lifetime but for you & Harrison cut so short. For this I am truly sorry time was so short.Love you.

My sincere condolences to the Florean family. Roberto(and Luigi) were kind enough to let me play against the older players when I was in junior high and high school when I was not a very good player. I usually had to guard Roberto which was difficult in itself but he always challenged me to be a better player. I am very grateful for the opportunity he gave me at a young age. Tony Walker

Our deepest sympathies to Kelli, Harrison and Family. We wish we could be there in person to celebrate Roberto’s life. Roberto was more than an uncle but also a friend. He was quick with a joke and always willing to lend a hand. Roberto will be remembered for his story telling and we will miss shaking his giant, powerful hands. Our love and thoughts are with you. He is in our hearts and prayers.

Kelli, we remember meeting you so many years ago now when you were still all in your 20s and when you went to the airport to see Joyce off and then when you both had children. We are so sorry that both you and your son have lost your husband at such a young age. We hope you and your son take the time needed to grieve and heal.

I enjoyed playing basketball with and against Berto for many years. He always was a gentleman on and off the court, and I fondly recall celebrating victories as well as nursing injuries and losses during post-game socializing. It is with our greatest sympathy that we say goodbye to Roberto who has been our brother-in-law for 25 years. He has been a welcome addition to the family and truly supportive in all their ventures. He had an infectious laugh and was a person of good cheer. He was a team player, excellent host, and son-in-law extraordinaire. He even assisted in the acquisition of our daughter-in-law Stephanie. He was a popular uncle and great uncle to members of our family.
He adored Harrison and was hands on in the parenting department. Bert will be truly missed by family and friends. He made Kelli happy and was her best friend.

To Kelli and Harrison
Please accept our sincere condolences with the passing of Roberto. We will cherish the many years of fun and laughs we had in the hood as the boys, Harrison and Jordan (Worms & Dirt) grew up together. It was very clear and said to me many times that the greatest gift Bert ever received, and was so very proud of, was Harrison. Please let us know if you need anything, sending you prayers!

Roberto was a super basketball player but moreso a nice man both on and off the court. I never saw him angry. He really enjoyed the postgame gatherings at the Pub including socializing with opponents and game officials. He recently led his Fredericton Team to 3 consecutive Great Grand-Masters Provincial Championships until Covid cancelled the Provincials.
Personally I enjoyed playing against Roberto right up to recent Provincials as I knew he was a safe player and was more concerned about his friendships and respect with basketball friends and not embarrassing his opponents with a blowout lol.
I used to contact him for our Grand-Masters League but he recently had a couple of nagging injuries he told me.
We will miss you Bert on the basketball court.

Since the time my sons were very young a special tradition started… 3 families & 4 little boys came together for several days/nights over the summer if we were fortunate enough to make the journey to New Brunswick to visit. One of the main highlights of these trips was often to visit Roberto, Kelli & Harrison “At The Lake”.
We were always welcomed with open arms & treated like family. Showered with love, kindness, exceptional hospitality, good food, drink, music, fun and a lot of laughter (see kissing the fish photo). A huge part of this experience was thanks to Roberto. He always greeted us with a smile & big hug. He tirelessly kept the boys busy with fishing, boating, junk food, funny stories, camp outs & the biggest bonfires they had ever (or ever) would see. He treated them like “one of his own”. OMG- what a patient man he was!!
When the boys were young & asked about their “family out east”, they often spoke about Kelli, Roberto & Harrison & didn’t quite understand the difference between family & friends. That describes the kind of person/man he was – the one you chose to be part of your family.
Our hearts are very heavy with this huge loss of a wonderful human being but beautiful memories of him & all he did for those he knew will be forever present in our hearts & minds.
Sending Our Love,
Shawna, Bryan, Greg & Will XOXO

I received the news of Roberto's passing this morning from our fellow teammate Greg Rideout. So sad to hear this. It has been many years since we have seen each other but we had 3 powerful years of friendship as team mates from 76-78. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and son and of course to Luigi. He has passed much too young and I am sure that he will be greatly missed by all his family and community. Rest in Power Sir.

So very very sad to learn of the passing of Roberto. Our thoughts are with the family at this most difficult time.
Roberto and I were the closest of friends through St. Dunstan's, FHS, and university - he was the person who got me started in basketball, and he had a hand in me eventually making my home in Ottawa - two important events in my life.
As a kid I always jumped at the opportunity to have lunch at Roberto's and be pampered by his loving Mother, and to listen to the boisterous "debates" with his Dad and brother Luigi - although i never knew what they were saying - it was lively! My parents loved Roberto, so much so they trusted he and I to "look after" the house for a week the summer between junior high and high school - perhaps not the best parenting decision.....but a good life lesson for the two of us.
Roberto had the most generous and loving soul, had a great sense of humour, he was also a sensitive person - he never let me forget his birthday. At a UNB Bball alumni golf event a few years ago I had the fortune to meet his son Harrison, and it was clear that he was Roberto's pride and joy.
I will miss you. I have added a couple of photos from Roberto's illustrious basketball career; the first from St Dunstan's Junior High and the second - the old timer Fredericton 'Fernandes White Star' Rum Team....
