LYONS, YVONNE PATRICIA

It is with great sadness that we share that Yvonne Patricia Lyons (O’Donnell) passed away on September 6th, 2022 after a short illness. She was surrounded by family and friends in her final days, as she was throughout her life.

Yvonne was born December 10, 1938 in McNamee, New Brunswick to Perley and Lethia (Driscoll) O’Donnell. For more than six decades, she made her home in Marysville on a farm along the Nashwaak river.

Yvonne was deeply devoted to her family. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Haviland; her siblings Juanita Long (Ernest), Allen (Irma ), Euphemia Black, Carlotta (Hank), and Cleveland (Trish); her children, Mildred (Dale) Gallagher, Barbara (Allan) Cardinal, Rocky (Sheila) Lyons; and her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Lyons. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, dozens of nieces and nephews, and many great-grandchildren. Yvonne was predeceased by her son, H. Tony Lyons; her siblings Melvin Pender, Lawrence O’Donnell, and Martha “Sis” O’Donnell (Billy); her brother-in-law Alvin Black; and her parents.

Yvonne shared her love and care with all who needed it. A mother-figure to many in her community, she would feed anyone who walked through her door. Every Halloween, she gave out homemade fudge; many who trick-or-treated at Yvonne and Haviland’s as children continued to come as adults to enjoy both the company and the sweets. She was also a longtime and steadfast member of the All Saints Anglican Church. She was active in the Church’s Mothers’ Union at the parish, provincial, and national level.

Yvonne worked at the cotton mill in Marysville, Bearisto’s Plumbing and Heating, Kings Landing, and H.C. Lyons Enterprises as a bookkeeper. Her longest working role was, of course, with Eastwind Percherons. For more than thirty years, Yvonne was the person that people spoke with when booking their sleigh ride adventures. Her last words were: “Damn horses.”

Her family is deeply grateful to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for their care of both Yvonne and her loved ones.

Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Friday, September 9, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  A Funeral service will take place Saturday, September 10th at 12 pm at All Saints Anglican Church in Marysville and she will be interred at 3 pm at St. John’s Anglican Cemetery in Carroll’s Crossing, all are welcome.
