Obituary of Ryan Buyting

 

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the loss of our beloved son Ryan Mackenzie Buyting on July 26, 2022. He was born on August 6, 1995, to Rob and Karyn (Broad) Buyting and was a loving brother to Jon and Lauryn.

 

Ryan was passionate, kind, intelligent, and thoughtful. His work ethic was exceptional and he excelled at everything he set out to do. He lived by strong values. He identified with Stoic philosophy and strived to emulate “The Four Agreements”: Be impeccable with your word, never take anything personally, never make assumptions and always do your best.

 

He was a deep thinker and loved to have deep intellectual conversations. He didn’t have time for “small talk”. Ryan always challenged us to be better.

 

He was well-read and loved to meditate, travel, and hike. He had a passion for Jujitsu, weight lifting, golf, skiing, motorcycles and spending time in nature. He especially enjoyed spending time at the camp with family and friends.

 

Ryan had many accomplishments in his short life, including a BSc and Master’s degree from McGill. He was awarded a large research scholarship, which helped fund his medical education. He graduated from Dalhousie Medical School (Saint John Campus) in May 2022 and started a neurosurgery residency in Edmonton, Alberta.

 

Ryan is survived by his uncles Karl Broad (Beth), Chris (Alisha), Dave (Nancy) and Mike (Moira) Buyting, along with numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his aunt Kristine Baer (Roger) and his grandmothers Joy Broad and Anne Buyting.

 

His family will establish a scholarship at Dalhousie Medical School New Brunswick in his honor.
