Obituary of Alice Isobel Costello

Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Alice Isobel Costello (Southard) on Saturday June 18th at Hospice House Fredericton, following a long, hard fought battle with cancer. Born in St. George New Brunswick on September 15, 1936, she was the daughter of Annie and Vern Southard.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, George Costello, the love of her life and best friend whom she missed dearly and her daughter-in -law, Jane Costello. Mom is survived by her children Laurie, Lynn (Scott), Gail (Julie), Stephen (Morag), grandchildren Chris, Katie (Mike), Andrew, Carly, Lauren, Thomas (Emily), Brendan, Erica, Jacob and great grand baby Jake, as well as her siblings Marilyn Ingram (Rick), Ralph Southard (Kaye) and Donnie Southard (Pat).

Mom grew up in St. George New Brunswick. She studied piano from a young age, obtaining her Royal Conservatory of Music accreditation and becoming a church organist at eleven years old. Mom was the Valedictorian of her graduating class. She was an exceptional athlete who participated in many sports throughout her life, but particularly loved curling and golf, as demonstrated by the two hole-in-ones she achieved. She and Dad are both members of the New Brunswick Softball Sports Hall of Fame. Mom thoroughly enjoyed the many family trips to Florida where she was the mini-golf champion. Mom’s favourite activities included playing cards, outdoor games and enjoying boat rides over the many great years of cottage life at Grand Lake and Lake Utopia.

Family was very important to Mom and Dad. They were extremely proud of all of their children and grandchildren. Mom will be dearly missed by her family and dear friends of 60 plus years, Donna and Daryl Barr - forever loved and always in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Hospice Fredericton or a charity of your choice. Special thanks to the many medical specialists who supported Mom throughout her illness including the Extramural team, the Palliative Care team, the Oncology department at the Chalmers Hospital, Dr. Belhadjsalah, as well as the Hospice Fredericton medical team.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, N.B. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Personal Condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
