Obituary of Frances Rose Matchett

Please share a memory of Frances to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Frances Rose (Stewart) Matchett at the age of 89, after a life well lived, and as she said – without any regrets. Frances passed away peacefully on a sunny day at Hospice House in Fredericton surrounded by her family.

Frances was proceeded in death by her husband Wilson Matchett; her parents (Frank and Hazel Stewart); her sister Nancy Mullin; and, sister-in-law May Stewart; brother in law Lyman Dunnett

Frances is survived by her children Deborah (Larry) O’Donnell of Durham Bridge, NB and Hollie (Faith) Matchett of Fredericton, NB; close grandchildren, Scott (Lynn) O’Donnell of Moncton, Travis (Beth) O’Donnell, Rebecca Matchett and Emma Matchett of Fredericton, NB, and two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Andrew O’Donnell of Fredericton. She was known to many as Grammie Matchett. Frances is also survived by a sister Dawn Dunnett of Mirimichi City and a brother George (Joe) Stewart of Trout Brook, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Frances was an active member of the community, attending the Boiestown United Church for over 70 years, and was a life member of the UCW. Frances’ hands were always busy – knitting, crocheting, quilting, making apple pies for a church fund raiser or her famous fudge for the Easter Basket sale. She handcrafted over 300 prayer shawls and countless baby sets, including hats and mitts for the neonatal unit in Fredericton. Frances was an amazing cook, hosting many family meals over the years, with everyone leaving full of wonderful food and with cookies to take home.

A special thank you to Dr. Wood and staff for their care over the years, and particularly over the past few months, and to the amazing team at the Fredericton Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion in the final stages of Frances’ journey.

Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Chapel, 7681 Route 8, New Bandon on Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 11am to 2pm.  A Celebration of life will follow at 2 pm with Rev.
