One Last Walk...
For me, this week has been by far the toughest to navigate through since the sudden transition of our brother, John McLean, to the great beyond. Much as we loved you, God loves you best.
I often wondered how much pain Jesus' disciples felt when He was taken away from them and crucified. Now I know, along with Del and Marshall. We could not sleep a wink coming into church last Sunday. Such was the incredible influence John had on those of us in his close-knit circle.
John always made things happen even though he had been in constant physical pain lately. He was the go-to guy to get things done within the church. But the pain never deterred him. He would often say that he felt his body was giving up on him and to stay in shape, he walked almost everywhere. It was he who introduced me to walking the trails to town and back from Lincoln Heights. Through him, I saw the beauty of nature in our habitat. We had plans to explore the trails on the Northside starting this spring. Alas, man proposes, but God disposes.
When John and I were not walking, we did numerous coffee, breakfast and lunch dates to catch up on things. Many years ago, I told John that I have never been to Montana's. He made it happen a few weeks ago while Val was away in the United States, almost as a parting gift, the last supper of sorts between us.
Time is an illusion. One day we all awake to the fond memories of yesterday. I never saw this coming, John. I am still in a perpetual state of shock. You believed in me my dearly beloved friend, confidant, motivator and mentor. You groomed me into leadership and helped shape my life. No one walked with you and remained the same. Such was the incredible influence you wielded. When I take those final steps with you up and down the aisle of the Lincoln Baptist Church, I will "press on" until the beautiful day in eternity, where we shall meet to part no more.

We send our sincere condolences to you and your family on John's passing. John was a very familiar sight at our regular Men's Encouragement Network breakfasts over the past 15 years, often bringing someone with him to hear testimonies of how Jesus Christ touched and changed their lives. John became the Editor of our bi-monthly bulletins, announcing our breakfasts and guest speakers at the many different churches across the City. I appreciated his willingness to jump in and lend a hand when he saw an opportunity to be a blessing. We will miss him. I thank God for His faithfulness to minister strength and comfort to you at this time.

Our deepest sympathies to Johns family. I have known John for many years 50 or so. He had a huge impact on my life even though he was one of the quietest guys I knew, his faith even as a young guy was just so inspiring. John you will be missed by all who knew you, I’m looking forward to seeing you again.

Val and the family,
Our hearts are heavy with the news of John's passing, but we are comforted in the knowledge that he is resting in the arms of Jesus, having run a solid race. John's patience and kindness will always be remembered. We are keeping you all in our prayers. We look forward to the day when we can see you again and give you a hug in person.

I was so privileged to share in the last few hours of John Maclean as we sat together at the men's breakfast on Saturday morning, 2nd April 2022 before his call to glory later that afternoon. The testimonies he shared about the goodness of the Lord regarding his life, family and ministries were words that would be forever cherished by everyone present, most especially by myself because it keeps resonating within me till now. "Pastor John Mclean", the entire members of LBC promise to keep holding the fort and make it to heaven just as you have made it....we would not faint or falter. Your contribution to the growth and development of LBC and to peoples' lives irrespective of their denominations would be forever cherished.....your legacy lives on within the body of Christ.
Sleep on our beloved soldier and brother....surely we would meet again at the Master's feet on the resurrection morning where we would part no more.
Our condolences to his wonderful wife, children, friends and family; may the Lord be with you all.
Rev. Richard Adesola
Senior Pastor, LBC.

Dear Val, Beth, Nat, and families,
I am so very touched that you choose our little church to dedicate your lives to. John loved the scriptures and enjoyed sharing them with us.
On little notice last fall, John eagerly put together an order of service to honour Truth and Reconciliation Day and he shared memories about his time spent with Indigenous Peoples out west. He befriended a man struggling with homelessness and brought him to church. These are just two examples of the kind of person we was. A friend to all.
Even in his sickness, he persevered, and bore witness to God’s strength and grace. The strong silent type, wise beyond measure. A friend of God. We counted on John to be there. We have a huge void in our church. We will sorely miss him, however, his testimony assures us we will see him again. We will ‘press on’.
May you find comfort and joy in the Lord during this time of sorrow.
Your sister in Christ,
Andrea

My deepest sympathies to John's family and friends on his passing. I knew John when he worked as an interpreter and he was always so kind and calm and excellent at his job. I ran into him on the northside trial within the last year and it was lovely to see him again. Rest in eternal peace, John.

To Val and family, although I haven't dropped by, just know that you all are in my prayers and thoughts. He touched the lives of so many people both personally and his church family. He was a great learned man and a "go to" person when you had a question regarding Scripture or wanted an opinion on a subject. He would always answer with such detail and thought provoking suggestions. based on the Christian life. We and I personally will miss seeing and hearing from him. When needing an answer "call John" was always the first line of inquiry. I know exactly how sorrowful you are feeling but God cares and will meet all your needs. It is with grateful hearts that we can know beyond a shadow of doubt that John is with his Saviour now. With that we can rejoice!
Much love and prayers Brenda C

John was a good friend and co-labourer in the Lord while my wife Denise and I served in ministry at Lincoln Baptist Church for almost ten years. John was a faithful man who loved the Lord Jesus, his wife, family and those whom he served and ministered to. Our sympathies are extended to his wife Val, his children Beth and Nathaniel, his extended family, the Lincoln Baptist Church family and to all those who are grieving the loss of this great servant of the Lord. He will be sadly missed but his memories will be etched in our minds forever. He leaves behind a godly legacy that is an example for us all. We are holding you all up to the Lord in prayer during this very difficult time. May we "press on" as John did to the prize that awaits us which John now possesses.
Our deepest sympathies,
Steve and Denise Ranni
