BELMORE, CATHERINE “CATHY” ANN (BARRY)

It is with profound sadness that the family of Cathy Belmore announces her sudden passing on Sunday March 6th, 2022, while vacationing in Florida.

Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick on July 15th, 1956, Cathy was the beloved wife and best friend of David Belmore, devoted mother to son Ryan Belmore, and daughter Sarah Drisdelle (Jonathan) and proud nanny to Nash Belmore and Wesley and Theodore Drisdelle. The second eldest child of the late John and Tony Barry, she is survived by her sister, Judy McGrattan (John), brothers Mike Barry (Dianne) and Rick Barry, along with countless nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

Cathy retired in July 2016, following a successful 32-year career with the Provincial Government. She worked in various roles with the Department of Public Safety and the Solicitor General’s Department. From 1981-1988, Cathy could be found in the front office of the city’s first American Hockey League team—the Fredericton Express.

It was through her work with the Fredericton Express that Cathy developed a love for hockey and fitness. For many years, she was an enthusiastic supporter of, and dedicated volunteer for athletics. She served on many boards and committees, including STU Tommies and Friends of the UNB Reds, as well as Special Olympics NB and the local fundraising organization for amateur sports—Fredericton Sports Investments. In addition to being a major force in the effort to bring woman’s hockey back to UNB, Cathy dedicated 4 years to the Fredericton YMCA volunteering as a certified fitness instructor.

Cathy was the embodiment of six simple words of wisdom that hung from a sign on her kitchen wall—You will never regret being kind. Her giving spirit and her kind heart is her greatest legacy. She lived life to the fullest, surrounding herself with family and friends. Cathy loved to host gatherings. Whether it was a Friday night happy hour, a pool party, staying connected to her large extended family or just a thoughtful visit to acknowledge a celebration or a milestone, Cathy always had a joyful demeanor and a warm smile.

Cathy’s brilliant soul touched every person she met. She treasured the company of her friends while golfing, walking, biking, or vacationing in Florida for a few months each year. But above all, she cherished her family. Cathy adored spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and grand dogs.

On their 40th anniversary in June 2020, Cathy summarized her life in a tribute to her husband, Dave:

40 years of marriage

14,610 days as husband and wife

2,087 weeks of laughter

480 months of hugs
