Obituary of Catherine Cain Allen

Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with sadness that the family of Catherine Cain (Pettigrove) Allen of Fredericton, NB announces her peaceful passing on November 7, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 95.

A Marysville girl all her life, Catherine, known as Kaye to many, was born on April 14, 1926 to the late Frank and Edna (Cain) Pettigrove. Her younger years saw her at skating rinks, baseball games, and dances, where at one, she was swept off her feet by Hazen Allen, her husband of 53 years. She was always actively involved in Marysville Baptist Church, playing the piano and organ, singing in the choir, and helping with various children’s programs.

Kaye’s kitchen was a gathering place for family and friends of all ages, and they could always count on a kind word, a listening ear, and a square or sugar cookie. She was well-loved by so many for her sweet, caring nature, and those that knew her best will remember her charm and the twinkle in her eye as she played a joke.

In her later years, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much delight. She spent the last 12 years living with her daughter and son-in-law in Quispamsis, but she always remained a Marysville girl at heart.

No one adored her more than her family: her daughter Mary Jones and her husband Lowell of Quispamsis, and children Melanie (Michael) Colpitts and Jeff (Sarah) Jones; her son Dana Allen and his wife Deborah of Marysville, and children Angela (Glenn) Wilson, Christopher Manderson-Allen, Victoria (Patrick) Fairley, Peter (Stefanie) Allen and Sean (Lori) MacLaggan; and her son Milton Allen and his wife Debbie of Marysville, and children Josh (Courtney) Allen and Lira Allen; as well as her 15 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Hazen Allen in 2001 and her great-grandson Elliott Fairley in 2013.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Marysville Baptist Church, 150 Cowperthwaite Street, Fredericton with Rev. Ralph Irving and Rev. Jason Hinsdale officiating.  Those attending the visitation or service must provide proof of vaccinations as well as government issued ID.  Masks will also be required. Interment will take place at the Marysville Baptist Extension Cemetery.

Those who wish to remember Kaye can do so best by doing an unexpected act of kindness, as she so often did. Remembrances to any charity of the donor’s choice would also be appreciated by the family.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Kaye’s home care support Pauline Morton; her doctors, especially Dr. Gordon Hollway; and the entire team of the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their wonderful care. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com.
