Obituary of Vernon Thomas Harding

Vernon T. Harding passed into the hands of the Lord on October 22, 2021, at the York Care Center. Loving husband of Eloise (Haworth) and father of David Harding of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Gwen Harding of Ottawa, Ontario, Bruce (Gemma Best) Harding of Ottawa, Ontario, and Karen (Gary) Stephens of the Keswick Ridge. Besides his immediate family he is survived by his sister Patricia Miville of Madoc, Ontario, ten grandchildren (Melissa, Mark, Joel, Eric, Isaac, Joseph, Katie, Megan, Amanda and Kristen) and eight great grandchildren (Layla, Amina, Mahailya, Solomon, Nyah, Hannah, Rose and Emilia). Vern was predeceased by his Welsh immigrant parents Joseph and Doris (Holt) Harding, siblings Millicent, Richard, Garfield, Glyndwr, Doreen Birkenshaw, Gwladys (Mac) Brogan, Nancy (Cy) Carney, nephew Ronald Harding and great grandson Lucas Jason Martin.
Vernon was a graduate of Minto Memorial High School, the New Brunswick Teachers College and the University of New Brunswick. Vernon was a teacher for over 35 years serving in St. George, Sackville, Devon, and Fredericton High School (George St, Queen St. and Prospect St.). He also taught in Port of Spain, Trinidad for three years.
Vernon was a long-term member of the Anglican Lay readers from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Douglas and Nashwaaksis. He was very involved with the New Brunswick Teacher Credit Union, a dedicated Board Member of the Credit Union Central of New Brunswick, on the Board of League Savings and Mortgage Co. of Halifax, a Board member of the New Brunswick School Days Museum and served with numerous other clubs and associations.
Vernon loved to spend time on the rivers and brooks of NB, although not many fish were ever landed. He enjoyed his hobbies of photography, woodworking and family genealogy, the Seniors Woodworking Club, the Nature Club and watching the flowers grow.
The family invites you to join them at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Dr., Fredericton on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Service at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Main Street, Fredericton at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 for a Celebration of Life. Those attending the visitation or service must provide proof of vaccination and government issued ID. Masks will be required as well. Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church Building Fund, Scholarship Fund of the Central Branch of the Retired Teachers Association, or any charity of your choice.
