John Roland Nicholson, age 92, of Fredericton, NB passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021 at the Windsor Court Retirement Residence. He was born on December 2, 1928 in Chatham, NB, son of the late James and Jennie (Gorveatte) Nicholson and for 66 years the beloved husband of the late Marion (Jones) Nicholson.
John was a member of the Nashwaaksis United Church and choir, and a former member of the River Valley Chorus; he was also a 60 year member of the Alexandria Lodge of Fredericton. John graduated from Bathurst High School in 1945. He later became a third-class power engineer and completed a program to obtain a certificate in hospital administration and management. After moving to Fredericton with his loving wife, he worked as the assistant manager of Wilson's Laundry and Dry-Cleaners. Later, John worked for the Victoria Public Hospital as the laundry manager and eventually worked as the director of support services at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital until 1991, when he retired. He enjoyed curling, singing and spending time with his grandchildren.
John is survived by his children, Julie Reissner (Len), Debbie Gesner (Garret) and John Nicholson (Pam Wood) all of Fredericton area; grandchildren, Ian Reissner of Yoho Lake, Marcia Gosselin (Peter) of Fredericton, NB, Jamie Reissner (Meghan) of Fredericton, NB, Andrea Gesner (Michael Blanchard) of Calgary, AB, Emily Johnson (George) of Calgary, AB and Heather Gesner (Johnny Van Camp) of Victoria, BC; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley, Nan and Florence; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Marion; brothers, Garnet, Everett and Abby; sisters, Beulah, Dorothy, Jean, Betty, Marjorie and Molly.
John's family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff of Windsor Court for his excellent care.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Monday, October 25, 2021 from 6-8 pm. A Memorial Service will be held from Nashwaaksis United Church, 46 Main Street, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 1 pm with Rev. Kay Clowater officiating. Those attending the visitation or service must provide proof of vaccinations and government issued ID. Masks will also be required. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Miramichi, NB at a later date. For those who wish to make a donation in John's memory, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
