Obituary of Lyman Donald Coy

Please share a memory of Lyman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that the family of Lyman Donald Coy announce his passing at Fredericton Hospice on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the age of 80. He was born on February 19, 1941 in Fredericton, NB, the son of the late Phair and Edith (Flewelling).

At a young age Lyman worked for his father and alongside his brother Walter at the family-owned business “Coy’s Bakery” in Devon. He later worked 31 years of service in the Treasury Dept. for the city of Fredericton, and 30 years as the city Marshall.

Lyman will be greatly missed by so many! He was referred to as “The King of Byng” by his close knit neighbourhood. A well deserved title as he always looked out for everyone. He was always the first to offer a helping hand to those who he treasured so dearly.  He enjoyed his friends and get-togethers for morning coffee at Tim’s with his coffee buddies.  Biking the trails with his bike group “Folks on Spokes”, and going out for lunch with the Devon Boys. Lyman was a valued member of Gibson Memorial United Church He enjoyed serving in many different committees and ministries within the church.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Carrie; son, Andrew and his wife, Mary; brothers, Lester of Hanwell, NB and Walter (Jeannette) of Penniac, NB; sister, Dorothy (Robert) Dorcas; grandchildren, Michael (Jenni) Galantai of Calgary, AB, Alisha (Matt) Nicholson and Ashley, and a very special grandson, Jordan Van Liempt; six great grandchildren and God daughter, Stacey Jewett; he is also survived by his special aunt, Fannie Thomas; many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Elwood Coy and sister-in-law, Ina Coy.

As per Lyman’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A Graveside Service will be held for the immediate family at Sunny Bank Cemetery, Fredericton, NB. A Celebration of Lyman’s Life will be held for friends and family, at a later date.

Special thanks to the amazing Doctors and Nurses at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Hospice and Extra Mural for their wonderful care of Lyman.
