MacKinnon, John Douglas (Doug)

The passing of John Douglas (Doug) MacKinnon occurred on August 10, 2021. Born in Stanley, he was the eldest son of the late John and Mary (Harvey) MacKinnon. He worked as a jack of all trades and master of none in various businesses through his life in Fredericton and Stanley. He liked to keep busy with fiddleheading, fishing, hunting and woodcutting until he was unable to after being diagnosed with dementia. He surprised us all with his patience, that he always said he didn't have, when he became the main caregiver for his late wife, Shirley, when she diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Doug is survived by sons, Jim MacKinnon (Tammy) and Kevin MacKinnon; daughters, Gail Estey, Mary Lee Delong (Clifton) and Jodi Hood (Marty); grandchildren, Jesse, Kalene and Rhiley; 2 great grandchildren Sandy and Serenity; great great grandson Storm; 3 step granddaughters Lindsay, Candice, and Kendra; 3 step great granddaughters, Yasmine, Willow and Oakley; 3 step great grandsons Kian, Spencer and Soren; sister, June Elliott (Fred); brother Chub MacKinnon (Diane); numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, sisters, Mavis Mazerall, Jean Hood, Pearl Green and Shirley MacDonald; brothers Willie, Wendell, Dick and Clifford; son-in-law Mike Estey.

As per Dad's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A celebration of live is being held for both of our parents on Sunday August 22, 2021 at Killarney Lake Lodge, 1600 St. Mary's Street, Fredericton, from 2 - 5pm. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Central New Brunswick Nursing Home (Boiestown) would be appreciated by the family. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
