Obituary of Mabel Eleanor MacPhail

MacPhail, Mabel Eleanor – Age 96 of Meteghan River, formerly of Fredericton, N.B. and Summerside, P.E.I., passed away at home on Friday, June 25, 2021.  Born in Dashwood, Ontario, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Henrietta (Emberley) Jackson.

She was a person of great faith, loved gardening, knitting, greatly enjoyed travelling, picking berries and preserving nature’s harvest. She was an avid reader, loved words and had a very broad vocabulary. She could recite poetry from memory for hours. She was also a great diplomat; a peacemaker always seeking to work through even the most difficult situations to avoid upsetting anyone. She loved being a “GG” - a great grandmother.

Mabel is survived by her daughters, Vivian MacPhail and Monica Gillis, both of Meteghan River; son, Vaughn MacPhail, Calgary; sisters, Mildred Jackson, Paris, Ontario; Gladys Hudema, Winnipeg; Laura Kreager, Cambridge, Ontario; Leila Anderson, Paris, Ontario; Carol Spurgeon, Brantford, Ontario; granddaughter, Tanis Potter, England; great grandsons, Vaughn Andrew, Bridgewater; Sebastian Potter, England.

She was predeceased by her husband, J. Allison; grandson, Vaughn Alexander; son-in-law Carl Gillis, sisters, Irene Jackson, Edith Meridew and Florence Penner.

A Memorial Service (by invitation) will be held at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 2 pm with Rev. Doug Adamson officiating. The public is invited to watch the service via Live Webcast. Interment will take place at a later date, in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Valley, P.E.I. Remembrances in Mabel’s memory, if desired, may be made to Meals on Wheels or a local Food Bank. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
