June 29, 2023: Today you would be turning 50 Jill and no doubt celebrating in Italy with loved ones as you planned. You were the ultimate “planner”! You are in my thoughts and prayers every single day but this time of year your birthday and date we lost you so suddenly so close together will always be extra hard. I know you would want us all to live life to the fullest but it isn’t easy. You were the best sister a person could ever ask for as well as best daughter, granddaughter, niece, aunt, wife, in-law and friend. If not for you I never would have gone to New York, Ed Sheeran concert and on the best trip EVER with you to London and Scotland shared with my besties Lori and Phenny. I am so thankful for these precious memories and will forever treasure the photo album from our trip you gifted me. I know you know how much I dearly love you and miss you and I really wish I had told you how very much I admired you for the beautiful person you are inside and out, and how you greatly inspire me to be a better person. You were so kind, caring, thoughtful, compassionate, patient, non-judgmental, smart, fun and adventurous and full of life, these qualities are why so, so many people loved you. I love and am so grateful how you embraced life and did so many things you wanted to do, rather than add them to a long bucket list like most of us do. You made things happen that you were passionate about, like spending time with family and friends, attending many concerts and travelling. I will be forever grateful for the 48 years we had you on this earth and I know one day I will see you again. You now have a beautiful great nephew, Harry who I’m sure you are watching over from heaven. Forever loved and missed. Rest in peace our precious Jilly. XOXOXO

Thinking of all of you - Gary, Bob and Barb and all her family and friends. I so wish I could've been there to say good bye officially. I've been thinking of all the good times we've had over the years and all the places we went - often for concerts. I am grateful to have had a long visit with Jill and Gary when they visited Ottawa for Gary's nephew's wedding right before Covid. We had a blast talking for hours catching up on our lives. Jill was such a kind, thoughtful person and always up for gathering friends. She is already dearly missed by those that loved her. RIP Jill

Gary, Barb and Bob and family,
I am so sorry for your your loss. Jill was simply a beautiful person inside and out, and so fun to spend time with. The world became dimmer when she left it, so suddenly. Jill's love of travel, music, her friends and her family was evident in all that she did. she was caring and so very thoughtful . I am so glad to have shared so many great experiences with her over the years. Our fun started as teenagers (poolside at Nan and Cor's) and continued throughout the last 30 years via concerts, trips and social gatherings with her and Gary. I loved her and will miss her terribly. The Berwick gang is now smaller in numbers but our hearts are full with love and memories . Rest in peace my sweet friend, you were the best. "Sociable!"

So many memories that bring a smile and show the wonderful unique person Jill was.
Because she was here, because she loved and gave such unconditional love and acceptance.
My heart is so sick and sad.

Today was the first day back at work knowing you would never be coming back to us. I sat in my office yet again in shock. When I came to Fire Prevention in 2017 you welcomed me and started molding me into a member of the "Bunker" We would have lunch together each Thursday from Domino's. We shared many stories both funny and personal. When I was sick you kept me positive. Always looking out for others is who you are. We truly are family here and you were the best at showing us all of that. Since you have been off I have been looking forward to your return and decorating your office in a crazy way! To say that you will be missed is an understatement. Looking at your plants today made me smile. I know the one you hated yet watered and cared for anyway. So you! I will never forget you Jill Gesner and I will keep Gary and your family in my thoughts and prayers! Rest now...We got it from here!

Dear Gary, Jill's family and her friends. My heart is broken for you; I am so sad to learn of her passing. While I met her at work years ago; we were friends. Attending conferences, meetings; working on projects; a patron of the restaurant I worked, I'm certain I've seen her there more since 2014 then the daytime gig just from the sheer nature of our work. Our love of travel always gave us topics to talk about... but there's one annual event we shared for nearly 2 decades wholeheartedly; our love of St Patrick's Day at Dolan's.
There are lots of great memories and attributes I can share about my friend Jill Gesner. The who she was, what she loved; there's a lot of things about her that make her stand out. This for one; every year at St Paddy's she'd race to Dolan's to get a large table and message folks to make sure they were coming so that everyone would have a place when they arrived. Once there; no matter who was at that table, Jill would introduce you to everyone and them to you. ... not just by name. She'd literally sing your praises to everyone. She was proud of her friends' successes and who they were. "this is Heidi, she works at City Hall, she travels the world, works two jobs and she can plan parties" for example. And she'd literally do this type of thing for everyone at the table. So in a very few minutes you knew at least something of everyone sitting next to you. ❤ A great vibe was always created and it made it so comfortable to talk to anyone there, because you had just heard about some of their best life milestones. She left no one out and she remembered everyone's details. She was generous, kind, funny, sweet; a real 'do-good'er'; a hard worker who LOVED St Paddy's, Music, A Good Time, Travel. We weren't 'best friends' but when we did see each other you'd have not known that we weren't. Jill, I will miss you. Rest Easy Girl; gone far too soon. Until we meet again; thank you for the beautiful memories. "SOCIABLE" I am thinking of all of you at this most difficult time; many prayers and hugs sent your way.

I was 14 when I met Jill’s older sister Lisa. Jill went from being Lisa’s pesky sister and her pesky little friends to someone I would look forward to hanging out with when I was in Fredericton to visit. The Smith family became an important extended family for me and I always loved the stories and sense of humour that they all shared. Peanut butter is one of my favourites. Jill was one of a kind, always up for a ribbing and some fun. I’ll never forget the Trews concert we went to. She loved music and you could tell. I hope you’ve found your Buddy. Sending all my love to Gary, Lisa, Barb, Bob and the rest of the family.

I was 11 when my younger sister, Jill was born. Loved taking care of her. My most vivid memory of Jill is of is of us walking down a street that had no sidewalks. She was 5 or 6. Of course, l tucked her on the inside since we were walking abreast. I had hold of her little hand. Jill asked me why I wanted her on the inside so l explained that it was safer in case an errant car came too close. We walked on a bit. Then Jill looked up at me and solemnly said, "Thank you. Thank you for walking on the outside and protecting me." How could you not love her?
